JL Superfrank St. Patty Day Ankle Slappers Ch.2
« on: March 17, 2019, 04:28:33 PM »
The forecast was for flat surf today so I thought it'd be a good day to test the fickle ss3 hoping to have it down when it gets good.  As par for this camera in the first part of the recording it tracked too high and then corrected itself.  The waves are real weak so I'm not sure if anyone will stick around to the end but as I walk and get closer to the camera it tracks down to the sand.  I changed the settings from "tight" to "medium" so the footage is wider.  I do enjoy reviewing and splicing the video especially since the software I used today is user friendly. ;D

Nice that you are Frank with us, LB.  I could use some ankle slapping about now.

Before I start with my reply, I just had a physical done and I've went up in weight from 144 lbs to (egads! :o) 146 lbs.

Now, I watched the entire length of the video. I'm used to seeing these types of waves where I sup surf at on our "flat days". As for me, as long as I can enjoy the ride and glide I get from surfing waves, I don't care how big or small the waves are.

My 11'1" board at 173 liters can easily surf those "angle slappers" with me at (now) 146 lbs and I would have a blast.  :)

Thanks for sharing this video.

LBSUP:  Really liked that!  I had the same thing here in the northeast yesterday as well.  It was me and three proners trading off and on on nearly identical conditions to ring in St Paddy's day.  Super fun......lots of cross-stepping and just goofing around.

Thanks for sharing....its just about having fun and resetting via Momma Ocean!

Nice slapper sesh! Beautiful conditions for gettin' the anks wet. Nothin' like sunshine and surf even if it is small. at least it was clean.
Constructive crit? Ok. Trim/cut/edit out all the paddling out and stroking for waves. Just a coupla up and over the waves and maybe two strokes for ea entry into your rides. I scrubbed through alot of that and it only took about two mins to watch the whole vid. Also if your in a decent editor you can straighten horizon pretty easy.
One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

Thanks Marc, will do.  Curious what editor you use?

Great stuff. Before SUP, days like this I would just turn up my nose, and go home in disgust...LOL. Now, they're one of my favorite days. Pull out the 12'6" displacement race board, and go!

I'm completely new at editing, and was using Movie maker, etc. I bought Cyberlink Power Director 17, and love it, although I still have no idea what I'm doing... I do know that you can shoot wider in a higher resolution, say 2.7k, and then "zoom in" while editing, dropping to something like 1080p. The program is really powerful for what it costs.

JL

Great post. Looked at the video again this morning and thought I had better get out there surfing some of the small waves that are rolling in! Better than staying inside during this drizzling day. Thanks for the inspiration.

Cheers

Marc, curious what editor you use?[/quote] Just like Oki  Ialso started w/Movie Maker and bought PowerDirector13. Been a while now and it still works really good. Had it like four yrs now and even when my laptop had to reload and I lost all my software but kept all the files(thankfully), CyberLink worked w/me to get my ver of PowerDirector back to me. Also they helped me retrieve the add-on pack I'd purchased. Very powerful and robust consumer grade editor. And the Director Zone has all kinds of free add-ons to "personalize" your edits.

Before SUP, days like this I would just turn up my nose, and go home in disgust...LOL. Now, they're one of my favorite days.
True story.
