Ngwe Saung beach Myanmar January 2019
« on: March 07, 2019, 10:55:50 PM »
There was a good swell in Myanmar Ngwe Saung beach coming from the Bay of Bengal on 23 January, I enjoyed a few rides all by myself in the water.

Good waves to ride produced by a nice swell.

BTW, this is going to be a little off topic. If you don't mind me asking, where did you get the hat you're wearing when you're riding your board? I need a hat like that.
Blue Planet Duke: 10'5" x 32" x 4.5" @ 190 Liters (2 Dukes)
Sup Sports Hammer: 8'11" x 31" x 4" @ 140 Liters

No doubt by yourself. Quite an off the beaten path surf spot.
One of the worlds longest beaches north of you. https://youtu.be/LD0gc1XqZew

So what’s your story?

I found the hat in France in a sports shop called Decathlon. I must say it is nice to have, I lost quite a few hats before that one...

Good one, M-S.   It's nice to see a new face ..from a new place.  Show some more pictures of the area.  What are you riding? Cheers.

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully I can find a hat like that here in the USA and purchase one for myself.

Hi surfinJ, you're right, this is off the beaten track surf spot.
The beaches stretch over 15 miles around that spot and it is difficult to find anyone in the water.
I shot that video last January, you don't need to watch till the end but it will give you a pretty good overview of the area.

My story? I am from France, I have been working and living in Yangon, Myanmar, for the last four years. After seeing that spot a couple of years ago I decided that I really needed to find a board. So I started to ride in Myanmar about 18 months ago. As you could guess you cannot find any surf or SUP gear locally, so I first brought an iSUP from abroad (easy to carry... I still use it to tour on lakes and rivers, I made a few adventurous trips out there!) and then I had a Sunova Speed 9'5 shipped over from Thailand about a year ago. I brought another iSUP for my working fellow as well so there are 2 of us now in Myanmar...

This is also my answer to Wetstuff / Jim

Bienvenue Jean-Marc. That is a beautiful looking beach area. Thanks for the vid.
That point looks interesting as to what might happen with cyclone swell coming in.

Beautiful place, though I know most live in or near poverty. My mother-in-law was born there. Thanks for sharing.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Hi TallDude,
You're right, this is a beautiful place but there is a lot to do to improve people's life.

Nice solo sesh you had. Nothing like warm, uncrowded perfect surf.
One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

Yes exactly. Very relaxing conditions, just enjoyed the sun and great surf. I spent 5 or 6 hours in the water in two sessions. Was feeling incredibly well at the end of the day and slept like a baby...
