Carolina Cup accommodations
« on: March 01, 2019, 03:41:08 AM »
Not sure if this is the right place to post, but I just found out I finally got the time off work approved to be able to race at Carolina Cup.  My original plan was to get in on a house rental along with a bunch of Midwest paddlers.  But since it took so long to find out I got the time off, that rental is now full.  So I'm trying to figure out where I'm gonna stay.  It looks like the Blockade is now wanting you to book 3 nights or more.  I only want to stay two nights.  I'd like to find a roomie or roomies to either share a room at the Blockade or in a BNB rental.  Is anyone in the zone also looking for a roomie for fri and sat nights at the Carolina Cup?  If so please message me.  I'm really not trying to spend $700+ on a hotel. And I don't want to stay in Wilmington at a cheaper hotel, because I can't imagine how hard it would be to find a place to park on race morning.

Not bad if you get up early. But... get up early!

I am going down Friday to duck the crowds and do a demo day, assuming shoulder surgery recovery keeps going well. I am planning it to be my first paddle outing. I won't have to load/unload a board or carry it to the water and it will be short paddles with breaks. It's 2 hours each way for me. Parking at WB is never fun on a weekend with good weather. But the earliest I get there is between 8 and 9.

Right now I'm thinking about booking an airbnb that is near the causeway bridge.  It will cost me like $370 for two nights total if I stay by myself.  I may book the condo and then still see if someone needs a place and wants to split the cost.  But then even if I'm solo there, it's still about half the cost of staying at the Blockade.

This morning I did start thinking....I may find a parking space, if I try to park at 4am.  😂

You don’t have to park anywhere near the contest site. You do have a fast board that allows you to paddle to the contest site.

I'll be down the weekend before just because I'm from there and I'm going to visit my parents. I wanted to go the CC weekend, but it didn't work out. On the flip side, I probably wouldn't have raced anyways and the surf contest is the week before so I'll be around if any Zoners want to hang out.

Sorry - can't rent my parents house out, haha

I reserved the one bnb I was looking at.  Ended up being about 400 for two nights.  Now just hoping to find someone to split with.
