what does everyone favor; Pickle or citrus solvents? any particular favs?

Hot water, and then a little mineral spirits on a rag.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Nope, just don't use acetone.

The pickle is like magic!

Just scrape off the big chunks with a rubber "wax comb" or something similar

Then it's pickle time!

Nothing works better at removing wax.

I must be missing something here, but if its not warm enough outside to just melt and scrape the wax off I'll just use my heat gun.  The wax has to be scraped first no matter what type of solvent you use to clean the remaining wax anyhow.
