Tofino February
« on: February 07, 2019, 11:04:37 AM »
Cross posted with Seabeeeze.Got out yesterday on North Chesterman. Nice waist high waves. You will see Wendy my wife at the end and Jasper our little yellow lab. About midway through I pick up a tiny wave but the next wave behind me looked great. Wave selection becomes such an important part of the beach break. Also towards the end I stuff the nose of the Speeed on a drop. I can’t remember when I last pearled with this board. I was beginning to think it was immune. Temperature was around 0 deg C. My hands got a bit cold with only 1.5 mm gloves. Feet were fine with 3 mm Solite boots and socks. Music is by Grayson Gilmour our nephew and new dad in New Zealand. Very talent musician and composer.

Cheers

Even though it was cold, at least you got to enjoy some sup surfing. After looking at those waves, my One World would have loved those types of waves.

Thanks for sharing.

Yea, FRP! Nice surfing in those glassy waist highs. SS nailed that sesh.
1.5 mm gloves, 3 mm boots? That gear would NOT cut the cold in NJ during winter. Pretty much need 5mm and 7mm rubber on hand for our polar temps.
Keep that nose up, Dad!
I probably asked already but why FRP?
One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

Thanks guys for your supportive comments! Much appreciated.

I definately need to get thicker gloves. After an hour today hands were frozen and had to go in. Not unexpected as there is a light dusting of snow and the beach was frozen. Thinking about just putting on a light synthetic pair inside my 1.5 ml neoprene. Would that work? Socks seem to work well with my 3mm boots.

Thanks supnsurf!

Let me know when you are planning a trip out. Great if we can get out for a surf. I got out this afternoon. Waited too long and the wind had come up. Blown out but caught a couple of Waves. I am amazed at the stability of my 8’10” Speeed!
