150 Foil Sessions - Video
« on: January 09, 2019, 08:20:27 AM »
I made another video documenting 76-150 of my foil sessions.  I had planned to stop at 100 but I wasn't able to get footage of some of the best days so I kept going.  20, 30, even 50 sessions in I still had my doubts about ever having good control of the foil.  I am very pleased that I stuck with it, so much fun!  I hope these videos help anyone that might be struggling.

and here is the first 75 sessions:

Clay

Thank you so much for sharing these.  They totally give me hope that I can eventually get it.  Learning to foil has been one of the most challenging things i have embarked on lately.  I am nearing 40 sessions but every time i feel like i am getting it the next session feels like a bust and take 2 steps back.  This morning the stiff offshores really humbled me.

When you say you narrowed your stance, how wide were you standing, it seems like in the video it wasnt that wide?

thanks again.

Clay, that was a brilliant journey hearing and seeing how you’ve progressed.

Hi and you are most welcome!  I started at 33.5" wide stance (centers of ball of foot), narrowed 1" inch at a time (1/2" each foot), now fly around 31".  I have a 36" inseam.

@SURFFOILS - Thanks, I appreciate the feedback!

Clay, It’s very easy to listen to you, whether you’re going from a script or not I don’t know.
What the system you use that displays the angles and board information ?
And your board looks like it has skinny rails on a thick board. How are you finding that as opposed to a full SUP rail ?
Thanks, Brett.

Thanks Brett.  I write a few talking points, in case I space out and to keep me on topic.  I struggle to read from a script and prefer to let the words flow.  I almost always only do one take, unless I mess up early on, feels more natural even if I forget to go over what I intended to talk about.

GPS - I like the Garmin Virb, so far the only reliable gps tracker I used and I love that they give full control over the data so it is compatible with Dashware and Racerender.

I love the skinny rails for regular SUP surfing, in turns they feel like an oversized shortboard.  For foiling I only have a handful of sessions on a full rail foilSUP, so I need more time to see if I notice a difference...

Thanks for the information Clay and what an effort to edit all those clips together too. That’s commitment to sharing.
Edit: searching for the Garmin, I found there’s several versions. Is yours this model ?  Im not enjoying the Trace.

Thanks, Brett.

Great video clay.

You have come a long way on the foil.  Looking great.

And your videos are always great.

PS: I don't think you ever mentioned who 'Jeff' was  :o

That's incredible. You are so dialed it's amazing. Way to stick w/the foiling and put it all together, Clay. It def takes alot of fortitude and focus to learn how to foil.
I only did 11 sessions and haven't been on it since Oct. Hoping to at least get somewhere w/it once it warms up a bit here.
One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

Epic documentation Clay.... like said above, the filming, editing and equipment documentation is a massive labor of love.... well done!

So... foiling exclusively or do you make an occasional outing on SUP?

Thanks Rick!

I went to Maui for 2 days last June and didn't bring my foil, SUPped then, and before that I remember end of February was when I committed to foiling exclusively.

That’s great Clay, you really look like you’re enjoying it and in control.
 It’s a different world in a foil isn’t it ?
