Sweet travel log vid, Creek. Enjoyed that one quite a bit. Looks like the adventure of a lifetime.
Was curious about rinsing boards off after surfing. I see so many people doing that and always I always considered it a waste of water.
One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

Hey Creek,
Thank you for another instalment of your travelogue! Really interesting to see Cascais as my girlfriend visited there with her friend during the summer about 10 years ago and planned on having a go at surfing but unfortunately the surf was too big for first timers. After seeing your video I'm sure that I'll have to take the family there one day!
Intresting to see you on a Striker like mine - but you did it way more justice than I'm able to!
Glad to see that your trip is going so well!
Keep enjoying!

We could start a "send Creek to summer SUP camp" fund here.  There are ways to make money from YouTube videos and I know of some travelers that use it to fund their adventures. Seems like you've got the talent and personality to pull it off. Maybe Admin can set off in the right directions.

You folks are too kind, thanks for all the great thoughts!
Something to consider... but,
I have my hands full just trying to parse my pics and videos!

The wind has been howling around here.
West side of town is too big for most breaks and wind was 30-35 the last few days.

It actually built up a local wind swell on the south side of town, a few hundred yards from my apt.

Got a very lumpy sunset session in last night..... after the Stampede.

A lot of the serious fishermen in Maui are Portuguese and seem drawn to cliff fishing. Maybe it's in their DNA. One old Portuguese guy I met at the Pauwela cliffs was fishing with a kite that pulled a 0ne-gallon plastic bottle wherever he wanted his line to be. He had a breakaway connection of the fishing line to kite and bottle that he could replace without retrieving the kite. When he hooked something big he's scramble down the cliff in his slippers. I wouldn't go down that path without being roped up.

Update..... too freeking big here every day!
Sunday forecast was 3-5 ft
winds were 35mph offshore and as always.... much bigger than 3-5 ft (pic 2)
and that was the "small" day for a while...

Fun to witness, but too serious for these old bones.
Southside of town is flat.... so looks like today, I spend some gas money and see what the coast north of here has to offer.
It becoming plain to me that this is not a place where a surfer ages gracefully in his 70's.

but, I gotta say..... driving the back country is a mighty sweet fall back!

I have so many videos and pictures, I am overwhelmed with what to post  ;D

What a bummer the winter is so saturated and hardcore there.  Point breaks are to grow old with as that heaving stuff can become too expensive. The spring, summer and fall seasons are probably more surfable where you’re at, though it seems that this trip of yours will be success when weighed on overall rich experiences.

Keep the stories coming and enjoy.

Ricky. That 'Monday' picture was a little ominous...    I found a 'Portugal live' cam.  'Looks maybe N. of you, but you can see people paddling out.

Honestly Creek, I'm tempted to send this thread to Netflix to see if they'll sponsor you on a world tour.  Far more entertaining than a  good percentage of their offerings.

Hi Jim... that cam is on the "flat" south side. Actually East of me by 30 miles.
Needs a south swell or get some wrap from the big NW swells we have now.

Jim

Netflix.... I'm in!  ;D

I did a 6 hour tour today.... found a few awesome point and reefs that looked very SUPable.... even in this big swell today.
Problem is.... its next to a boat harbor that only commercial guys are allowed into.
I trekked the whole area, drove all the dirt roads but couldn't find anyway to get in the water within miles of it.

I took pics and vid, but I'm off to eat a cheeseburger and have an Absolute & Coke Zero.  ;D ;D
