Paddle Clinic with Danny Ching
« on: December 16, 2018, 07:56:56 AM »
Had a great day with Danny Ching at his paddle clinic in Dana Point yesterday, I learned a lot about paddle stroke technique and injury prevention. The guy is super talented and way cool to talk to, will definitely do another one.

Lucky you.  It seems you hardly hear about clinics anymore. (maybe in the sub-categories)  Was it dealer or brand-sponsored or Danny Ching himself?  Spin off a few of the highlights you remember. Thanks.

It's great to get a small group clinic with a guy like Danny. I'm sure your paddling just jumped to the next level.
It's not overhead to me!

It was with Danny himself, so cool he paddled with me and let me know what and how to change a few things, way to much to go over but well worth it.

Exactly, just gotta get out on the water and practice.

Danny has one hell of a stroke. Complicated though. His blade enters the water like a knife--no splash, no bubbles.

Dave Kalama still does clinics, and Johnny Puakea does too. Danny's are more focused on OC1. but the core stuff is very similar to Dave's training. Dave is insistent on pure technique, and you can see why when you watch him paddle. No matter what he's doing, every stroke is fucking perfect. Seriously, fucking perfect. Makes me want to puke. Today he was paddling a dinky foilboard I couldn't stand on into crazy wind and waves and I thought "that's the prettiest stroke I ever saw". Geez, made me nuts.
