Where to SUS on Maui next week?
« on: November 21, 2018, 10:01:18 PM »
Any suggestions on where to SUS on Maui next week. Am staying in Wailea and kiting Kanaha/Baldwin in afternoons. Have surfed west side, NW and N shore.... but it has been a while and not so sure about where to SUS. Am bringing SUP from CA where I live on beach. Am intermediate SUS...been trying about 2y. Any help appreciated. Where is good Kanaha lineup? Hard of a spot outside the Kahalui harbor. Thanks

According to Surf Lies it's going to be a North Shore show for the next week. There will be a bit of a bump on the west side on Monday tapering off through Thursday, but it's likely to be dinky. Might be foilable.

North Shore will be big on Monday with a 16' 16sec swell coming from the NW. Not ideal for Kanaha, but festive plus for everywhere to the east of it. Fairly light wind all week, though it might be OK for bigger kites. Friday the 26th it's supposed to swt6ich to Kona.

The crowd at Kanaha has thinned a lot with a lot of the better SUS surfers switching to foils.

Thanks, PonoBill. Yeah, I should have checked the surf report sooner. Surfline (oh, that's what you meant by Surf Lies, haha) says that NW swell will be 15-20 Mon, 20-25' Tues and 10-15 feet on Wed.  How much of that size gets into Kanaha? Is there anywhere on W shore that gets NW energy knocked down 50-75%? I guess I like to SUS waves averaging shoulder to head high to 2-3' OH max.

The harbor will be more manageable. There might be some bounce to the west side. A lot of NW swell will be blocked, but still plenty of energy.
