I think there are two ideas here. Check me.

One is the “keep the leash out of the water crew” and the other is the belt leash made into shorts.

If you sewed nylon webbing around the waist of a pair of board shorts you could Velcro to the back of that and it’d work like a belt leash. Just do eyelets in the front or a Velcro strap to close it and you’ve got a belt leash boardshort combo. Any extra Velcro down the leash could keep it out of the water for foiling.

Pono, I’m in LA and can hire jobbers. Let’s get to it.

Actually, I have a simpler solution, so simple it's got no commercial value. In the other hand I've designed a foil leash that works really well, and I sort of thining I'd do something commercial with it. Nah. I'll just to show people what I've done.

Two problems with foil leashes--they need to be long to get the foil away from you, and they often tangle around the mast or stabilizer. As mentioned earlier, the long leashes drag and some folks don't have places to stuff a loop of leash.

To solve the tangling problem I've added short sections (like an inch long) of small diameter pipe insulation secured with a ziptie with shrink tubing over it spaced about a foot apart to the last few feet of the leash. That keeps the leash on the surface, where it's unlikely to tangle. At about five feet from the railsaver I added a wrap of velcro hook material designed for cable management which has a loop end. I cut it so it has a 2-inch tag end. Zip ties to either side keep it in place. Then I add a loop of the loop material to the boardshorts (or bikini in Karla Aguera's case). You pick up the loop of leash, stab it towards the velcro and it hooks on easily. The tug of a board in the surf pulls it free. Presto.

I'll shoot some pics when I'm not being so lazy.

Here's what the ties look like, you can even get them in color. And they'll stick to microfiber cloth almost as well as to loop fabric.

This is the new tail handle. lol

This is half of it. The non tangling thing.

But the other part is a waist leash without the belt. I can see that being a thing too.

Yeah, and just like the tail handle, it will have a lot of people who have never tried it saying it won't work.
