Orwell didn't mention this
« on: November 11, 2018, 02:54:28 PM »
Where does our love hate relationship with AI go from here?

I recall reading an article that the first computer scientist/Coder who experimented with social was so alarmed that he destroyed all of his data and refused further comment.

Where is the AI in this? Having a simulation parroting words is not AI.

True, but its not hard to connect the dots.  Robotics and AI are coevolutionary partners.  I would say, that fox and Facebook, show this one is an easy connection.   Fox and Friends, Facebook friends food photos, brand recommendations, political endorsements data AI adapted to a robotic interface served up streaming and we would hardly notice the change.

This is all part of the AI soothing period.  We carry extraordinarily powerful AI in our pockets and don't think of it as AI.  Anything that looks like a robot in human form is met with much greater concern (job stealing warlords).  So this new breed of news readers is another stepping stone.  Nothing to fear here.  Just a pleasant looking guy with close to prime time mouth movement bring you the news.  How long til his little sister is watching your kids?

Well, could you please hurry up and replace Trump with an AI then? Or any kind of I, for that matter.

This seems like the stuff of sci-fi.  The current low unemployment rate hints that this is an issue for a future generation not one facing America in 2018.  Far from it.  Universal basic income is being debated currently by leaders of the largest most powerful global corporations with good reason.  Technology has the potential to displace segments of the workforce en masse today.  The commonly held belief that US manufacturing jobs have all moved to China, is inaccurate.  US manufacturing activity today is higher than 50 years ago but far few workers are employed in the field due to increased productivity.  Robotics, and AI, have taken these jobs moving much of the US workforce into part-time service related jobs or independent contractor niche work (think UBER).  But these jobs are also open to replacement by new technologies.
Enter UBI.  Woohoo free money for all with one small problem.  What to do with all that time.  You could try the new growing segment of the economy “Experiential  Products”  What we old timers call doing things. Pay AIRBNB $100 a day of your UBI and you can experience employment at a used book store.   You are having a fun “real” experience selling an organic product that most people have replaced with a digital version while engaged in a leisure activity that was once considered work.  But most would will prefer to sit in a temperature controlled home wearing Oculus playing some version of Minecraft occasionally watching a robotic news correspondent feeding micro targeted news.  Ironically humorous and eerie.

As an adjunct facilitator for the supreme independent loyalist ministry of truth, we will take this into consideration. Based on SILMT's findings, we will consider what might be construed as truth. Should the factual content appear to exceed 20%, we shall deem it fit for the masses and suggest it be truth on Facebook and Twitter etc. Doublespeak!

It's just a proliferation of thumb-typing zombies.
