UNiversal Fin Box.
« on: November 10, 2018, 12:36:07 AM »
Tired of choosing between FCS and Futures fins ?
Well now there’s a Universal fin box that can take both.
Thanks to my incredible ingenuity and a few friends, you can download the file, print them out, and now swap and mix any kind of fin with a base including glass-ons.
 Enjoy.

I like it.  8)

But it looks like this fin box has to be installed when the board is being built.
Blue Planet Duke: 10'5" x 32" x 4.5" @ 190 Liters (2 Dukes)
Sup Sports Hammer: 8'11" x 31" x 4" @ 140 Liters
SUP Sports One World: 11'1" x 30" x 4.5" @ 173 Liters
CJ Nelson Parallax: 9'3" x 23 1/2" x 3 3/16" @ 78.8 Liters (prone surfing longboard; Thunderbolt Technologies build in Red construction)

SF, it would seem that as-printed, there would be a substantial void to fill with epoxy in the installation and accordingly lots of heat.  Are you setting them in HD foam first?

Hi guys, you can do either pre or post glass installation. I prefer post as I can also install on boards that had FCS plugs.
Bean, if you rout it carefully and use microballoons it’s not heavy. One of the contributors has offered a slightly different shape with routing jigs to match for a snug fit.
HD foam has been done but it was XPS.

NightWing, any change to fin boxes means some glass work for sure. But for folks who’ve built up years of fins this is a big deal. Remember that good fins are expensive so long time surfers can have more money in fins than a new board. I’m currently mostly on FCS due to ProBox but still have some Futures lying around.

Buying a used board has its own Murphy’s Law. Whatever fins you use, the new board will have the other boxes. 😂
