rtg--that was a joke--i am the known left of communist guy here on the zone--figured it would be safe, coming from me

which misstates--i believe in capitalism--make my living trading capital markets, in fact

"i'm a centrist"
Sorry; I guess I haven't been around long enough. Young people call me a socialist; the word doesn't have the baggage it does for my generation (the second S in USSR). The so called socialist regimes have sullied the term for us. I do think capitalism needs to be regulated and support heavy taxation at the upper end. Redistribution doesn't mean everyone gets the same; it just means the winners don't get to run up the score into the stratosphere and the losers aren't destitute.

eb, seriously, you don't already have a paperwhite? You might as well tell me you don't have a surfboard.

I read on my phone a lot too, I have major league ADHD, I can't handle downtime. I see people sitting on a beach, relaxing, chatting and wonder "how the fuck do they DO that". Diane and I go to great restaurants with a beautiful view and pull out our paperwhites. We both consider it a symbol of finally finding the right person to spend our life with. The only way I can sit still without Concerta(tm) is to read. My drug of choice. I can read crap--I don't like it, but I can do it and be at rest. I read some Adam Savage. I sat on the beach and read it, totally comfortable except for wondering how a human could produce such much bile without dissolving himself.

Lots of similarities. I have some trouble relaxing for very long, though I will sit in the sun for a bit. I will also finish most really bad books if I have gotten more than a couple of pages in before it becomes obvious it isn't just a rough beginning. A lot of the fiction I read starts with expository lumps and that's difficult for anyone to do well. ADHD? Big time. I had some issues with adderall and take straterra.

I don't like having stuff to drag around with me. I hate that I need glasses (not a good candidate for laser). A phone in my pocket I have gotten used to. Still, I would use a paperwhite if I had one.

Get one. 99 bucks. The difference in the reading experience, even over books (which I refuse to deal with now) is astonishing. Perfect clarity in any light, no reflection, clean interface, weighs nothing. I have 1053 books in mine, most of which I've read. I share my library with family members so there a few I didn't buy, but sometimes I read those too. I don't carry mine everywhere, but if I suspect I might be reading, I take it. Even just the benefit of not needing to take reading glasses makes it worthwhile. I can increase the font size if my eyes are tired or the light is poor. You can do that with a phone too, but I find a readable font on a phone is larger than one on a Paperwhite so I'm not reading one word per page when my eyes are toast and the light is crap.

I am to the point now where I can't stand to read a big font for long because the blur bugs me too much. I wear progressives now as it extends a lot further out than I thought was possible with far sightedness. I am okay with paddling without them on, but I have to pack a pair. I have a couple of pairs of bi-focal sunglasses that help if I need to read/send a text, tie on a lure or whatever.
