If innegra ever became the industry standard, rail saver would be it of business. But it won’t, because you need to vac bag it.

I've been hearing about innegra for a while. How tough is it compared to Pau Han's ricochet build or a Bic Ace-Tec?

not so sure the innegra is panacea, dw

my allwave ltd has dinged just as easily and my glassed boards have, and it's innegra--might be it is an early variant, and innegra is better now, but i cant attest to any superior durability in the case of that board

Innegra is a constantly evolving

It is NOT

Easy to work with but pressurized construction helps
BOMB PROOF

It is
Lighter and Stiffer  and high reflex response (some like it some folks not so much)

You want the quickest small wave board Inegra carbon construction is the best

If anyone needs some RS PRO we got a good ZONER DEAL on it

Helicopter tape will work in a pinch but paddle hits and other abuse can damage it.  It doesn't hold up anywhere near as well as RSP.

Hopin' to do the application tomorrow or the next day. Been quite chilly here last few days. Like 35F this morning w/a brisk offshore breeze adding some wind chill. Supposed to get up to the mid sixties so it should be a go.
One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

I just do it inside the house, because I live in a cool climate. I turn the heating up in the room beforehand and leave the tape to unfurl in a warm place (eg. over a radiator) for a few hours first. Then use masking tape to mark the line you want to follow. Then I cut the backing paper halfway along the rail saver, and start applying from the middle. This makes it easy to get the two sides lined up and centered on the handle. Then I put the board on its side, clean the rail, and straddle the board to apply the tape. This means you can see down on the rail and it’s easier to lay the rail tape straight. Then I spray liberal amount of water on both the tape and the rail, and start laying it down from the midpoint. Then when one half of the tape on one side is done (either from the handle to the nose or handle to the tail), I change positions and do the counterpart end. Once it is down, I use a warm hairdryer or low heat heat gun to warm and soften the tape a bit as I smooth out any bubbles and excess water.

It’s a bit of a palaver, to be honest. So do it at some point when you aren’t feeling time-pressured, and can take your time to get it right.

One tip: do NOT touch the sticky side of the tape with your hands. It will never quite stick perfectly if you do: the oils in your skin cause a problem. So when you are removing the backing paper, use a knife or similar to peel the paper away, not your fingertips.

I wish that there was a coloured tape that I could get that could be used full length.

I have some paint chips on my board and the easiest solution would be a tape band along the whole border, covering the current dings and stopping any others.

I don't see why it was only suggested to use rail tape on the front section!

buy two sets and cut/mate them--i did that with extra large rsp tape on my sic v2--good coverage over most of the board--wettie got the tape job along with the board--at a serious brooklyn blowout price!

hope youve been getting joy on it, wettie

The front section is where you're supposed to be doing the paddling, and the notion is that the tape protects against paddle hits. But yeah. that kind of ignores reality and doesn't do much for the kind of dings that are most common--loading and unloading. RSPro does a great job of protecting against dropping your board on it's rail. I did the same thing Eastbound did. A bit expensive--about $100, but worth it when your board cost you four grand, which is kind of the going price for custom SIC.

If your board isn't a 14' or greater than 1 1/2 pieces of RSPro will do the full rail on both sides. I like to match or contrast the color. I have a black and red RSPro strip on my 17 V2 and it looks gorgeous. And yes, it's covering three rail dings that were painful to look at.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.
