Foil Sesh #10...finally
« on: October 16, 2018, 06:37:23 PM »
It's been around six weeks since I last tried the foil. Hafta admit I was apprehensive after all that time off it. But I felt it was a good sesh mostly because I could really really really feel the front and rear padding I put down for foot placement and the foil stance felt stronger than ever(amazingly enough). I guess all the surfing I've been doing is keeping me going strong. After about 80 mins or so my front thigh would start burning pretty quickly though.
Waves were pretty small but bowling w/the light offshore breeze. Manage a coupla liftoffs and one semi-controlled landing at least.
Beautiful fall day here in NJ to finally get back on it. SS pics and a few from some guy that had a new iphone.

One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

Looking good. Your stance has improved. I found it took 7-10 sessions to fly under control. 12-20 sessions to actually make controlled turns and do some basic pumping. Your mileage may vary. Living in AZ I don’t get a ton of water time, so I do tons of YouTube research and practice on my Indo board on a daily basis. Both really seem to help. The Blue Planet vídeos have been indispensable to my journey through the learning curve. I’m still a kook, but I’m having so much fun learning this version of SUP. It’s the most exciting thing I’ve done in the last 10 years.

Look at you dude, feet in the right spot. You got it! That's what it's all about. You felt it, didn't you. All you need to do is rotate your body a little more to the front and you're home free. Do you see how your body is turned towards your right? For the first few weeks let go of the paddle and put your arms out to both sides, down low, like an A-frame, paddle in your left hand and blade end back behind you. Automagically lets you rotate to the front.

You got it dude, you're there. Now it starts getting crazy fun.

I appreciate the positivity, Evan, pono, and clay. Truth be told I'm far from actually foiling proper. I still crashed every liftoff and have yet to actually ride the majority of a wave up on the foil. But I ain't giving up!

i think once the "automagic" kicks in, if it ever does, I'll be hooked!
