« on: October 09, 2018, 11:35:02 AM »
What sizes are zoners on these days. Up in Halifax the SUP Surf scene is small and I know a couple guys on 8' x 30" but everyone else is on 10' stuff...

I'm 5'8" in height and weigh 144 lbs.

You can see the two sups I paddle in my signature.

I do flat water paddling on lakes and sup surfing on the upper Texas coast with the occasional ship tanker bow wave sup surfing.
Blue Planet Duke: 10'5" x 32" x 4.5" @ 190 Liters (2 Dukes)
Sup Sports Hammer: 8'11" x 31" x 4" @ 140 Liters

I am a first year SUP er, and I ride a 8'10" 145 liter Fanatic Allwave in Massachusetts and Long Island, NY. Was thinking about buying a 8'10" 125l Sunova Creek, but have lately been leaning towards a Longboard Style SUP, like the Sunova Style or the Fanatic Stylemaster.

8'10 x 31" for choppy or big days.

7'6 x 31" for smaller, cleanish days.

31" seems to be the comfortable width for me at my age of 61. I can go narrower but it's a lot more work.

Start big then work your way down size as you progress.

Pearson Laird Surftech Longboard 10'6"x23"x29.75"x18"x4.375," 154 liters, 26 lbs, 3 boxes
Jimmy Lewis Black & Blue Noserider 10'1"x31"x4.25," 164 liters, 22 lbs, 1 box

The Pearson Laird is my first SUP - that I got about 8 years ago.
it still rides great.  It is more of a performance noserider.

I've had the Jimmy B&B for about three years.  It is more of a traditional noserider.

Both handle well in the point break waves I typically surf in - pretty much all size waves.
The Laird is a bit faster depending upon which fins I put in it - 2+1 or single.  B&B is a single only.
I have a lot of fins and I change them up all the time.

There is definitely a lot of overlap between those boards - more than one would think.

I am looking for a longer but narrower noserider for more glide & speed (and better athletic recovery by me)
but it won't be fitting in the van, unfortunately.

70 years old, 233 lbs
I have basically every Sunova model.
From 8’3 to 14’

Surf up to DOH beachies and points

I mostly ride between (w/v factor)
9’0 x 31 @ 133 L  (1.25)
9’5 x 31 3/4 @ 150 L (1.41)

Ocassional grab a big board 10’ to 14’

I find if I go too small, I lose performance because smaller doesn’t carry speed as well.

Some day I am heading your way.... great place that I need to see!

Over the past several years, I have ridden 7'4 X 30 and an 8'6' x 31, but currently, I'm finding I have more fun on my 9'1 Creek and my 9'8 Element.

i am 185 lbs, 6'2"

i am solid on my creek @ 8'10" by 30.25"

i am finding my way to stability on my barra 8'3" by 29.5"--i will get there i am sure--just need a few more sessions
the shorter, slightly thinner build makes a big difference on steeper more jacked up waves--holds face and accelerates better--pumps better, snappier

and it may be that the barra is just shorter thinner and lighter than the creek--apples apples would be to compare to the smaller, comparably sized creek

barra was exhausting to paddle around and get into position, for my one ral session on it---but my creek's dinged and drying so it's showtime with the barra--gon be waves round here fri/sat--it'll be a bit of a battle, but i bet ill have it wired by end of the wknd

i have enjoyed moving down in size over the years--each move down was not voluntary--i would buy a new smaller board and it would sit, becuase i never wanted to be flailing around when conditions were good enough to try out a new tippy board--always required that my go to board be in repair--then i had no choice but to make it work with the smaller board--this'll be my 4th transition down in size--much prefer to be as small as i can on the wave, so far--not sure i will go down from the barra--at 60 YO i figure ill get zen at some point re board sizing, and be happy with what i got--might be the barra for the juicy clean days, and the creek when there's some chop--we shall see
Portal Barra 8'4"
Sunova Creek 8'7"
Starboard Pro Blue Carbon  8'10"

36 yrs old, 5’11 and 165 lbs. Recently down 30 lbs thanks to Keto.

My go-to board is an Infinity BLine 7’11 x 27, 85L. My quiver is always changing but right now I also have a 7’6 x 27 Infinity RNB which is about 88L, a 7’11 x 28.5 RNB at 95L a 8’0 x 28 Infinity Trout model which comes in around 100L and lastly, a 10’ x 27 Infinity New Deal at 122L.

I find that the BLine is more stable (to me) compared to my other boards. I’m attributing that to the fact that it’s mostly submerged when I’m standing still and the rails are not affected as much by surface chop. I like the workout and can do 2-3 hours pretty easily on that board. No way I would be as comfortable if this was back in June and I was at my earlier weight of 195.
