Looks more like double overhead to me.

Too bad he didn't get one of the board in full flight.

Man, if I'm trying to drop into something half that size on a foil I'm desperate to keep that foil from lifting off.

What's going on under that board? Doesn't look stock. Oops, never mind, that's probably his paddle blade in the last pic.

Mainland vs Hawaiian surf heights. In theory, Hawaiian measure is the back of the wave, or more precisely the wave before it breaks or starts to ramp. Mainland measure is the maximum face. In practice, it is definitely a point of pride to understate wave height. Chree (three) feet is head high on the mainland, six feet (head high) can be anywhere up to double overhead. Seven to Ten is closed out at most inner reef places unless the swell angle is just right, and then it's all you can manage and a lot more. The last el Nino winter--2016-17--was seven to ten just about every day. I thought about having a T-shirt made that said "I Survived El Nino 2016" but I figured it would jinx me. There were a lot of days when I thought I wasn't going to. Lots of time spent scrambling for the horizon, lots of time spent not making it and hoping my leash would hold. A few times hoping it wouldn't.

That's a fun-size wave on a forgiving reef. I'd be happy as a clam on that with a SUP, but I'm not ready to do that on a foil, I need baby waves. Hopefully I'll get to that level this winter. For me, its been a frustrating summer for foiling. This downwinding stuff is not ideal for old, heavy geezers.

Courageous drop for a foil...well for someone at my novice stage anyways. Always groovin' on the kamalino shots!  8)
One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

It's surfer's code.
Six foot tall guy, in the tube, standing straight arm fully extending upward and can't reach the top of a 5 foot wave. :-\  always makes me jiggle
