The Irony of Sup
« on: October 02, 2018, 10:19:08 PM »
Wasn't the best start to a day of surfing.
Cross posted in Sessions.

One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

The spirit of SUP was punishing you for being unfaithful by going proner.  You are lucky it didn't send a shark after you.

Having found myself in the path of disaster before, and always looking back in time to see if there was a better path or plan to get back out without jacking up someone's ride, I'm wondering after looking back, was there anyway to avoid the collision?  It's a hot topic with my wife and I, and I usually say that when in doubt, aim for the whitewater and prepare to get worked over.

almost hit a guy at rockaway yesterday--paddling out, he went for the face instead of the white--took skill not to hit him, when it finally became clear he was going to do the wrong thing--redemption: as soon as i surfaced, he apologized--said very sorry, i shd have gone behind you, didnt think youd make that section

generous, given i was the only sup and it was stoopid crowded--and i was totally chill when he immediately defused

you gotta duck the white, leave the face, if the wave's being ridden

and if youre a sup, avoid confrontation even when you are totally right--the crowd will lean to the proner no matter what!

I really wish I could hold to that but it's just not the case w/my foiling. Sept was tough because the weather was crap and the waves just were not the right stuff for me.  But I'm still hoping to get back on track. I'm pretty particular about what I'm out in on foil. That day of the collision was too windy and big for me to even consider launching.

Discretion is the better part of valor...DEFINITELY!

always looki back in time to see if there was a better path or plan to get back out without jacking up someone's ride
I've replayed that collision a hundred times over in my head and wish I'd made a run for the whitewater. Done it a hundred times before.
