Maybe this is my answer for beach camping
« on: October 01, 2018, 01:13:49 PM »
Since I agreed to sacrifice and move to North Carolina, my wife is totally open to going beach camping.  That is an amazing thing from an indoor, homebody girl.

I don't really know much about them, but these seem like a good thing for camping along the beach.  I understand that surf racks can go on top of them.  What do you think?

I'll play "Devil's Advocate".

Speaking for myself, I think a better alternative is just a plain old 7' x 7' tent pitched on the sand. Then inside, lay a small pad down on the tent's floor, then put a sleeping bag on top of the pad. This is a lot cheaper than what you thinking about cost wise.

BTW, what happens if you buy this and you need to take a pee during the night? Getting in and out of that thing on top of a vehicle isn't going to be easy in the dark of night.

I think you need to leverage the goodwill of giving up your dream home and place you love more..... ;)

You're wife sounds like my wife. She can be adventurous but usually her idea of roughing it is bad room service. You can sell her on this.

Yikes!  I never thought of getting up to pee in the night.

2500 bucks for that?? You can buy a used trailer for similar money--with a refrigerator, heat, toilet, and actual walls. Especially this time of year when people are looking at the travel trailer they bought ten years ago and used twice.

There are several car top tent systems and the Tepui system seems to be vary popular with some of my friends. Remember, camping includes a lot more that just having a place to sleep and pee, you need to cook, eat, lounge, shower. etc. Your roofnest seems to only help you not sleep on the ground.

Glad I asked for opinions.  It seemed like a good idea until it went through the Zone gauntlet.  Now it seems like a terrible idea.  Thanks all.

Pono’s got it. Trailers are cheap all over. Easy setup and the wife can stage it at the house way before the trip. Your own linens, dishes etc.

When it rains during your trips, you and especially your wife will be glad you opted for solid walls.

Zoo there are dozens of variation on that  from Jame Baroud to Auto home, bigfoot, to allumicab  etc. Then there roof top tents   dozens and dozens.    You can find out about alot of these on expedition portal forum.  But here is one it is an offroad trailer that  I think would fill th ebill nicely  air opus  the overlanding thing ison of my hobies.  But this trailer would work with  almost anything   get your self a jeep or a good 4x4 pick up and go explore the beaches and the  world.   Hang Ten Bro!
