Kauai in July - SUS suggestions
« on: September 19, 2018, 02:14:45 PM »
Thinking about escaping the summer doldrums next summer and heading to Kauai for a week. I've been to Maui/Oahu already and my wife really wants to go to Kauai. I'm a fairly experienced SUP surfer, comfortable in overhead Costa Rica waves, etc.

I know it's going to be the south swell season, and I'm looking at staying in Poipu, probably bring my own gear. Any suggestions on where to go/not go, normal swell size (proportioned to an East Coast surfer, i.e. your waist high is my head high).

Any other suggestions on flat water paddles, etc. probably do a good bit of hiking, tourist type stuff too.

Kalapaki beach has a good long board wave.  Plus rentals & a bay to paddle

Kalapaki or Poipu down South. Don’t SUS anywhere else really unless a guide takes you and will guarantee your safety lol.

For everywhere else, grab a longboard, be friendly and respectful,  and enjoy yourself.

Kauai rules.

Ha, I'm planning an anniversary trip, so I'm trying to decide between the following:

Kauai (we went to Maui/Oahu for our honeymoon) - not bad flight wise from EC US (we stop over and stay with friends in Cali), and there's surf, no issues with getting gear there. Also, I can use points on the flight

Moorea/Tahiti - Looking for more SUS info, hard to get gear there, obviously crazy expensive.
