Take every wave. Have you seen it?
« on: September 11, 2018, 09:18:07 AM »

Hi all,

Have you seen this? Worth it? Thoughts?
Does it have the nutty part of him too or is it just wild glorification?

Remember he was foiling way the hell back in time. I remember watching him foil I dunno in 2001-2002, and I just had to get that foil. I used mine for kiting and ocean swell, not crazy big breaking swell.
I'm a huge fan of what he has done in surfing, but perhaps not a huge fan of every aspect.

By not following the flock into the contest scene, Laird was free of all established boundary's.

His dedication and training gave him a comfort level in the ocean allowed him to see things that weren't there yet.
It's probable that if you trim his arrogance, you would get less from him.

It is  stunning what he has done and continues to do.
Laird became a brand by living up to his legend, and knowing how to parley it into economic freedom.

I have no problem with Laird and am really freeking grateful for the quality he has added to my life.

Thank you Laird, I am stoked to see lights shined on your story!

Say what you want, but it is wasn't for him we wouldn't be SUPing and this forum wouldn't exist. The Beach Boy crew, the Ah Choy family, John Zapotocky, Rick Thomas blah blah blah.  If Laird hadn't gotten into it, all previous mentions would be a distant memory.  Cock on the block?  Yup.  Arrogant?  Yup.  But, he accomplished what he did and here we are.

Saw it. From what I remember, the irony is that SUP is barely mentioned in the film. It felt as if he was trying to shed that part from his image.

haha why would he? He still SUPs.

But I agree with the above comments. Tho, I think Kalama was as important for SUP.

Laird's THE man! "Take Every Wave" looks like a "Must See" to me.
One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

Amazing life and I enjoyed watching it but I was a bit taken back and disappointed there is no mention of SUP. This is "The Life of Laird Hamilton" and all I saw of note on SUP was a short clip that looked like it was shot during  the same session my favorite SUP surf pic of all was taken. It seemed a bit revisionist to almost completely leave it out. The focus on foils almost made it look like marketing. Does he have a line of foils or getting ready to market maybe? I appreciate the guy and it's truly amazing what he has done but as a SUPper I was a little disappointed.

This was about his life and it's obviously been about much more than just SUP but it should have included a bit more of this.....all props to Cammar for this amazing pic.

My favorite video of Laird surfing Hookipa on a giant day with crazy wind was shot by Admin during his brief foray into high quality video gear, perfectly accompanied with Klezmer music. Where is that Video, Admin, I can't find it.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

I'm a big fan of Laird but the movie title sounds like he's advising everyone to be wave hogs.   ;D
Kalama E3 6'1 x 23" 105L
Axis HPS 980 / PNG 1300
Sunova Flow  8'10 X 31"  119L
