Oooh, Flo
You were so very very good today.

Sizable mounds, curvy and smooth as silk.

See you again tomorrow sweetie 😘

A Zoner hooked us up and it was magical

I talked her into mellowing out on our friends down south
She said she would try to be gentle.

Memoires coming soon.

Surf was a few feet overhead in NH today. We had an awesome evening session.

I'd love to see some pics and vids of the cape and Rhode Island. It must have been gigantic there.

Looks like New England and the Maritimes will get a taste.

We've had six days in a row of good surf here in Jax. Chunky and big Thursday, and chest-head high and clean the other mornings. Tides have been good too.

This morning at the humble beachbreak near my house was the best: Walled-up low-tide glass, block-long rides all the way to the sand, perfect SUP conditions for the local crew. I told them it was like lying in a hammock, being fed chocolates and grapes by the Swedish bikini team.

Dropping quickly this afternoon, but they're predicting a little boost from Helene over the weekend. After a dismal August, it's almost as if we live in a place with real surf ...

The swell is expected here in four days.  Getting excited.
21s is enormous for us so the 6’ swell should really stand up.

Finally got some Flo. Windy, overcast, but pretty solid and challenging at the inlet spot I chose. Not a whole lotta south facing options in NJ but there are a few. I was the only sup out all morning. Coupla longboarders and one shortboarder but they weren't gettin' much. My 9'11" Ripper was a clear advantage. This inlet break can be quite shifty w/alotta water movin' in and out w/the tides. Scored a coupla lifts out to the lineup via a wave runner. First time ever getting a lift out to a lineup.

Cookie-thats the spot I surfed all three days of Flo in my 9'7 Creek meets Flo post! Could have used the wave runner yesterday. Forced me to the inside wave but the inlet handled Flo well. On windy days like yesterday and today that spot can be a bear especially when the wind and tide are both blowing out! Chases a lot of the Sups away, for sure it chases me. Nice that you conquered the conditions and scored some scored some!

Chunky!

My session was not so good. I only got out Friday. Unfortunately didn't get out early either. Head was screwed up enough that I waited for morning traffic to die down and then took back roads to Newport.... :P. So of course just as I get there around 11:00 the wind shifts...forecast was for 2:00 shift and just light onshore....by 11:30 it was blowing at 10 kts. It was chest to head with a bigger set every 5 mins and quickly getting lumpy.

Talked to Pdlsrfr and a few other folks that had come in from earlier glass (of course). We chatted and watched Mr Big getting pushed back on his attempts to get out. If nothing else I've become pretty good at paddling out, I mentioned that it looked OK from the beach, just had to time it right.  Well that was the old me...the new me with the fucked up head and weak as shit had a bit harder time. Fark!....took me 15-20 mins to get out at least. The wind was enough to slow me down just enough that I was getting hammered in the whitewater...I'd get over 2 or 3 foam balls and have the last get me. Then the big set comes in....you now the drill. Lots of current, got swept down the beach. Finally found a lull and got out. Just me and a few shortboarders at that point.

Caught my breath for a few minutes and saw a big set coming. Waited for the 3rd wave and got on, just loosening up, a few wiggle waggle turns and just as I start to turn out it closes and drives the nose back in....pushed back inside.....take the next 3 big ones on the head and get pushed back to the start.  >:( >:( >:(…..I'm pissed...now it's a fucking fight you bitch....Mother doesn't like that thought and slaps me a couple more times while I stubbornly ignore her until my leg cramps  ::) ::) ::). Walk(limp) of shame back to the sand for some stretches, water, and some pissing, and moaning with the crew.

Took awhile to feel ready again. But at least I got back out on the 1st attempt. Got some fun ones, nothing stellar unfortunately a few slightly overhead but with the wind and tide they were mushy for their size. I knew the way I was feeling I was tempting fate on an injury so I made it short.

I think Flo was feeling kind of like me by the time I saw her....a bit beat up and old..... :(
