Time to build a foil specific board
« on: August 01, 2018, 04:49:47 AM »
Hi, I'm going to build another board and would like to have a combo tuttle with fin boxes. Has anyone seen this type of setup that you can buy? If not, what boxes would you recommend.

Thanks

You might ping Robert or one of his team at Blue Planet, their new foil boards have a combo set up.
Maybe they can give you some guidance on what they use.

I'm far bhind on foiling but have thought about converting my 7'10" Poenix V2.  I would start with a twin track, pre set in a divinycell block.  Once the block is in place a Tuttle could easely be routed in later if needed.  And by then, I would have some real world experience on mast placement for this board.  For somone needing a tuttle right away, I would just make sure the high density block is long and wide enough to retro the twin tracks later.

I got my tuttle box from King's and it was not square. Looking at the reviews there, it sounds like I'm not the only one, so be aware of that if you go that route.

That's surprising, Dave is a master of CNC.

I'd do Chinook mast bases and probably a GoFoil Tuttle box, though actually if I were doing one today I'd skip the Tuttle and just use a converter. The extra 4" or so would be welcome.

Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Yeah, I'm going to question the Tuttle. Buy the cassette from U.K. (shipping is no big deal) and just drop that in. Easy.

Oh, and regarding the Chinook only folks. I'm sure they are better, but I also can't imagine that any of the production boards are using them so I'm going to say that the Futures that Charlie uses are fine. Also, if you watch the Instagram like all the kids you can see him pumping the hell out of his board with no issues.

If I could post photos, I’d show you the broken other boxes. The last time I reordered with Chinook, I had to wait weeks to get mine because they had filled orders for 300 and 500 boxes shipping to Asia. Don’t put your head in the sand. Use chinook.

First, I appreciate you all!
Thanks for all the input and advice.

PB, I was reading earlier construction comments that you had posted about tracks vs. Tuttle. Awesome disscussion! This board will be constructed with 2lb EPS, carbon and innegra. I also have 6 mil H80 DV and HD foam that will be incorporated into the construction.....hmm, might have to add stringer/s.

surfcowboy, cassette from U.K.?

I'm 6'1" and 210 lbs and this boards dimensions will be 7' 31"  5" nose 1" tail rocker and about 130 liters. Our surf in Texas, lacks power and I need all the speed I can muster to catch a wave. I'm hoping this flatter rocker profile will help.

BTW, I own a King's and really like it but, it is a combo SUP/Foil with a 5" nose 3" tail. For my skill level, I can only catch on the peak.

+1 on Chinook.  The ride engine cassettes are very easy to install.
