Big Weiner

They used to be designed and fabricated across the street from my shop in SB 10 years ago...always a head turner...they did other skunkworks projects there, too...now, the space is the most hip and happening brew pub in town...

Well my buddy, Deadbeat, continues playing with his wiener so I decided to get going without him :)
I'm using 1.5 lb foam with a 5.7 innegra/carbon weave top and bottom, then apply 20 oz carbon patches to reinforce the tuttle and foot areas.

7 x 31 x 4.5

I wonder if it will be strong enough...

What do you think?

Playing with a big Weiner takes time. Not that I'd know.

A nice looking board, but let's see some better pics. Particularly the rails and tail. I'm not seeing a bevel or a step. I'd be forced to consider that a fault after having experienced the benefits.

DW, at the time of this shot, only the bottom had been glassed. I applied the deck glass yesterday morning and this is my third board that I have built. Just wondering if I need to add more layers of cloth...

PB, lol...this is an attempt at copying a friend's board that he gets flying very quickly. He is 70 and does not monkey pump.... also, he has a new Kalama but never see him using it. This will be used in our small slow gutless Texas surf. When the surf picks up, I'll continue to use my King until I build another board.

More pics to come.

Video of him riding his board:

Found out what Deadbeat has been doing....another innegra board.

Deck glassed, time to add some reinforcement patches. Weight 13 lbs
Really enjoy using this cloth, I did not have to make any triangle cuts for the corners and rail wraps.

That looks great. I'm going to have to play with some innegra.

The video actually shows what I'm talking about. Your geezer buddy is pulling his board up against the leverage of the floaty tail, it's not popping up. That's fine, it's controllable and easy enough, but the deep bevel tail is a revelation. Maybe next time.

Love the names of the boards. the deadbeat windowlicker is my favorite. Monkeypump is a good name too. I'm not much of a monekypumper either. My monkeypumping knee doesn't care for it. I'm probably going to replace some of my choice and common profanity with monkeypumper.

Thanks PB, glad you got a chuckle. Yeah, Deadbeat Monkeypumper sounds like a good board name :). We've used two different innegra weaves so far, the IN36A Plain 3.50 IS-940 and this carbon/innegra from innovativecompositetechnologies. He weaves it in North Carolina and sells on ebay.
Next board will have the tail bevel but first I want to try and paddle a sinker like Steamroller.

BTW, with this rocker, if I don't like the board, I'll drop in a mast track and foot straps. Might be a good slalom board....lol

That actual 3.5oz 50” wide Innegra cloth from BGF is treated with something that stiffens it during handling, and completely prevents any fraying while working with it.

My experience with the mixed carbon/Innegra all in one weaves, is the Innegra frays like a bitch. White hairs everywhere. In addition to the already fraying black carbon hairs getting everywhere. It works great, it sucks to work with compared to BGF pure Innegra.

Well, sanding into the black innegra on this weave creates major fuzz so, I had to add a layer of 4oz fiberglass over it. Sadly, cold damp weather has been slowing my progress but the end is in sight. Pictures soon.

Next board will be a log and I'm going to try the IN33 without the vacuum bagging. :)

Yeah, innegra always has to be covered. It’s like Kevlar in that respect.

And no sand throughs. It will leak. Not for amateur builders, that’s for sure.
