The damage these stories do to the USA is immense.

B-E...  Even a 20% reduction of a 10% approval rating doesn't mean the meter moves much.  (envy does not equal respect) I had the opportunity to be a 'resident alien' in Canada for a couple of years and spent a few years in Germany pointing tactical nukes at our new friends, the Russians.  I loved traveling around W. Europe but Americans were not universally welcome.

Canada was great in many respects, the health care in Ontario, was like what we geezers get here, but for everybody.  Yet, there was kinda of a flat affect in the areas I was in (exception: Quebec - which was on another planet). Canadians rightfully were going 'Tisk-tisk" at the carnage in Buffalo and Detroit while two-murders-a-year took place in T.O.  (probably outside of hockey rinks)

If Canadians switched places with Mexicans, I'd beg to get my status reinstated, but there's a profound lack of energy that makes the U.S. seem a more inspiring and invigorating (and warmer) place to live. This whole country may have committed harakiri in the last couple of years, but, I'd still rather live in a place with energy and explosive (human) potential.

In Santa Cruz, vendors drool on your change and waiters/waitresses drool on your table.  You get used to it.
