Anyone with specs on the Dave Kalama type foil boards?
« on: July 10, 2018, 04:37:10 AM »
I'm looking to make a new foil board like the ones Dave Kalama uses both on ocean waves and in the Hood River Gorge.  You  know da kine.   The real short, rectangular plan shape with the heavily beveled edges and stern.  I have a pretty good idea of what it will be but thought it would not hurt to ask.  After foiling for some time I am now coming to realize the benefits of having a board that can be easily "pitched", for and aft, for getting increased foil speed for take off as well as getting the board out of the way while flying.  Thanks in advance!

Dimensions for his stuff are all over Instagram. Check his page there. Tons of great shots too. The dimensions are crazy to read. Saw a guy yesterday on a Kalama that had to be under 6' or certainly no more than 6'

There are plenty of people on 5'6" Kalama boards.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

PB, what kind of length, width, and volume are the "200lb Club" able get down to on Dave's boards.  We're seeing smaller, and smaller foil SUPs here (some on the low 6's), and Dave Daum is just finishing up a 5'8" for the sub-170 club. But as far as I know, that's the only sub 6' SUP foil I know of around these parts.
Me: 6'1"/185...(2) 5'1" Kings Foil/Wing Boards...7'10 Kings DW Board...9'6" Bob Pearson "Laird Noserider"...14' Lahui Kai "Manta"...8'0" WaveStorm if/when the proning urges still hit.

Again, on Instagram, I'm seeing 26" to 31"

I'll bet about anyone on this board could ride a 30"x 6'6" sup foil with the right thickness.

My new board will be 6'.  I'm going to try 30" wide unless someone thinks its too wide.  I'm super excited to see how these boards function in comparison to my 7'4" tucked tail SIM SUP.  Thank you for all your advice.  This is all so new that I sometimes feel as though as soon as we see something on line or out on  the water, it will all be different in a month or two.

Do it. And know that you can always sell that thing when you're ready to make another. I think that that's the great thing about new sports, always some of s behind you on the curve to buy gear you outgrow. ;)

So, no one answered the questions on the new production board dimensions.  Anyone know?
Lots of foil boards 6’7”-7’4”, L41 TVD’s and Jimmy Lewis Strikers..

I have one on order. It’ll be here in a couple weeks. Mine will be 6-1x28. Not sure how thick, but I’d guess 5-6 inches. I plan on posting a video when it arrives.

There aren't any specs for the custom boards because they are all custom. Mine is 7'2" X 32" X probably about 5". Wide and thick. It's more than I need in the ocean and just about right in the choppy river.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.
