The Boards Of Summer
« on: July 06, 2018, 10:29:52 AM »
Quite a few sessions in already this summer. Been nice being able to surf at my local w/the life guards on duty.

One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

That video was the "cat's meow" for me.  ;)  When you said some of the small waves you imagined are what we have in Texas, you were close. The smallish waves you were actually surfing, the wave in front of you which looked like beach foam/wash, many times that is what we have on the upper Texas coast at Galveston Island and on the Bolivar Peninsula. This is the reason I bought my 11'1" One World just so I could sup surf these types of waves.

Thanks for sharing your video. I really like the long length of your videos too. Almost forgot. Nice background music to go along with this video.

lol...sounds like what my dad used to say. I love that expression. thanx for confirming my suspicions about the Texas Gulf surf.

Here's a playable YouTube ver w/my jams. I really like those pop/rock songs in the orig though.

Some good stoke and good music there Cookie. I'm jealous.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Can you not usually surf with the guards there?

My stoke is still strong and is reinforced by everyone's cool comments. I just wish my body was as strong as my stoke. At least I still get out regularly and have been hitting the waves way more frequently than in winter. Not having to suit up definitely makes beach life easier and more enjoyable. And it seems I've lost some weight cuz now my 32 waist board shorts are fitting me! My foil has been seriously delayed in shipping and I really thought by now I woulda had a handle on whether or not it was something I would be doing regularly. I'm definitely feeling in good physical condition to take on the monumental task of beating the learning curve at this point so bring it on KeNalu!

That was the case for ever and ever here in my little New Jersey shore town known as Surf City. Just last summer the resident and visiting surfers, and proponents of sotf (surfing outside the flags), rallied together w/a signed petition to present to the town officials. We were more than a little surprised when they actually approved sotf for a trial period immediately. It's still in the trial period this season but it seems to be going very smoothly. I haven't had to load my vehicle up once all summer and have just been doing the 2-1/2 block walk-up to my local break. lig.

Good for you locals to get that victory, hope it stays.
I was in Wildwood last summer ( I’m originally a Bergen County benny) ;)
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benny_(slang)
And they have one section of beach for surfing only, maybe it’s 100 yards wide.  I rented a Sup one day and a longboard the next,  however the northward current was so strong that by the time you got out and got your ride you were already out of bounds and the guards were whistling you out.  To top it off, at the “surfing only” section lots of people were swimming out quite a ways , right in front of the guards and you had to dodge them with your board.

Keep up the stoke, always enjoy your vids

Post a coupla pics of yourself please? Hopefully one of you surfing a sup? I am doubting you are a true "Benny". You seem WAY to cool and dialed to be certified as one. But being from North Jersey is a step in the right direction.
