I just dropped off an old 8-6 SUP at the Stretch Factory in Santa Cruz. They are charging $300 to install a Tuttle box. I think Kings Paddleboards in SoCal does something similar. Retrofitting an existing board is a really affordable option for getting into the sport. My (very limited) experience is that once people get the hang of flying, they want smaller and smaller boards. For that reason, buying an expensive production board right off the bat might not make the most financial sense. Just be careful to not use too big a board in the beginning, as it may be harder to control once flying. I've seen videos of people learning on real long boards and it looks horrifying.
Hope this helps
