How do I make my booties less grippy?
« on: June 21, 2018, 07:39:31 PM »
My Sunova Creek has a nice, soft, grippy deck pad that is great on bare feet.  My brand new booties have traction soles and they grip the Sunova deck too well.  Now I tend to trip over my feet when I walk the board because my feet catch on the deck pad.  I need to make the booties less grippy.  Suggestions?

I think I would just cover you’re deck pad with Vaseline. It all depends on if you are a shuffler or a cross steeper. Do you hang five every time. Or just once a month?

Oh wow, what good advice.  Do you put Vaseline on your paddle too?  You must be a great SUP surfer.

Wear them and shuffle along & scuff on concrete.  Can understand your issue, had the same problem with some new boots, got one foot stuck in the grip at the end of a ride and badly twisted my knee.

Did you go with the new Fivefingers?  The original KSO's have smooth soles which work great with traction pads.

I would find a way to clamp them into my bench vise and sand them with my disc sander.

No, the surf shop by my house had a deal, so I got the Oneill Tropical Boot Split Toe. Less than half the price.  Just split toe, no 5 fingers, but they work pretty well except for the one issue.  Surfed with them today and I'm thinking I could adapt.

What I liked about them is they have a Velcro strap across the top to cinch the boot to your foot.  No slipping around.

A strap across the top of the boot or reef shoe is essential for any wetsuit footwear. Some people complain about the negative effects of boots when they haven’t tried one that can be properly fastened to your foot, preferably by Velcro straps across the top of the boot, preferably connected to ones round the back as well, and also, if possible, at the top of the leg bit (in the case of boots not booties). It makes a huge difference.

The tread will wear down.
You can speed up the process by wearing them and walking in the street.

Put on your booties and then go for a jog in the street, two birds with one stone.
It takes a quiver to do that.

body glove makes some booties that have minimal grip, the voodoos I think.  Mine ripped on the 3rd session.  The sole is loved by foilers with foot straps as they slip right in.  I recommend looking at that tread pattern and sanding/wearing down whatever booties you have to match.
Aloha, I welcome and appreciate all responses of positivity and good feeling.
