ONE SUP Evo 12' 6" x 24"
« on: June 14, 2018, 10:37:27 PM »
This is a bit of a shot in the dark, but I thought I’d still throw it out. I test paddled a ONE SUP Evo 12’ 6” x 24” this morning and really liked the board. Well, I suppose that’s not really true. Truth is, I REALLY, REALLY liked the board. Could well be a new addition to the quiver soon.

My only concern is that I tested it in dead flat water. I’m just curious if anyone out there has paddled this board in any kind of choppy conditions, and if so how did it handle?

Oh, and one other thing. Does anyone know if there were any changes to this board from 2017 to 2018. The board I paddled was a 2017. It’s for sale, but I may also have an option to get a new one but would like to first of all know that the 2018 is the same as the 2017.

Thanks so much for any information you might be able to provide.

Hi, the Evo shape has not changed for 2018. I was wondering the same thing and got a reply back from One SUP stating the shape is the same for this year. I've only tried the 26" and 25" widths for the 14 Evo and not the 12'6".

Peter Allen? Who dat? Why not just Ping Jacko or Angie? I've been surprised how stable the ONE sups are, even in their narrower widths. If I were going to buy another downwind or race board it would be one of their unlimiteds, either the dugout or the flatwater race. I like the designs. Though getting back into that dugout would suck. The bailer looks good as does the sweep tail drain. Other than flailing and flopping rolling over the dugout walls the only thing I see that I don't like is the steering system. I don't know why everyone puts the rudder springs on the steering arm. You need a much stronger spring and tension in the control lines (which increases rudder post friction) to center the rudder. A very light spring acting on the rudder post will center a balanced spitfire-style rudder. I think everyone that's tried it uses much too much spring and therefore finds rudder action to be poor. Easy to adjust the rudder too--you just move the end attachment point if it's a batten spring.

Thanks guys, for your responses. I currently have the ONE SUP Evo 12’ 6” x 26”. It’s a good board, but as mentioned I recently test paddled the same board in a 24” and I loved the way it handled. Quick and nimble, and had what I like to call “the grin factor”. Also as mentioned I didn’t get a chance to test it in any kind of chop, and that was the initial reason for my post, but the more I think about it, I think it should probably be O.K. So I’m not quite as concerned about that.

My only dilemma now, is for some time now I’ve been wondering about going to a 14’ board. All my boards are 12’ 6”, except for a Red Inflatable which is I think 13’ 2”. I’ve stayed away from 14’s mainly because of storage reasons. I still don’t think 14’ boards will work, but a friend of mine has said I can borrow his 14’ board and find out for sure. So sometime next week I hope to borrow his 14’ board and see if it will fit in our place. I have measured, and it will be close, but at the end of the day I don’t think it’s going to work. And if it doesn’t, then I’m fine with paddling 12’ 6” boards. But I still want to try. And then after that exercise is concluded, I think I’m most likely going to add either a 12’ 6” x 24” ONE SUP Evo, or possibly even a 14’ x 24” ONE SUP Evo to my quiver.

Thanks again for all your replies.

Oh, and by the way, Luc is correct when he says Peter Allen is our local rep for ONE SUP. I know Peter and he is a good guy, but I have another distributor who is closer to me who I have been in contact with.

And finally, thanks as well to Robon for confirming that the shape has not changed in 2018. Good to know.

Of course :-)
Good luck. Hope you can get the 14' on the water a number of time to really get a good idea.

Ah.

Angie and Jacko are super great people. They usually spend a fair amount of time in the summer in the Gorge--at least Angie does. Always great to see them

Sounds like ONE SUP has a lot of good people associated with it. Great boards and good people. Tough combination to beat.
