The conventional thinking is that the leash should be as long as your board to lessen the chance of hitting your board when you wipe-out.  Also, if you want to cross-step to the nose you need a leash that is at least that long.  For me a 9' knee leash and rail saver gets me to the end of my 10 footer NP.

Yeah, now on my noserider, I have a calf leash that's 10' long, that makes sense, but.......not so much on a 7'-8' shortboard style.

8mm, i believe--never had one break--had a break on a well-used leashlok waistbelt--at the connection point to the belt

lucky--i was about to paddle out in huge surf at guiones, when i discovered---very tough long paddle out that day---would have been painful had it broken in the water

also the leash string thingies, shown on the link to their belts, are excellent---certainly worth trying for the 2 bux or so they cost, if ordering a belt or leash

Suffering from shark fear?
XM may have something to ease that fear, the Sea Snake leash, looks like a sea snake, sharks hate sea snakes, but will it work?  Beats the hell out of me,,,,,,,,,, designed for the paranoid, at least.

It takes a quiver to do that.
