Sail Fail? Foil Fail? Sail Foil Fail
« on: June 15, 2018, 09:06:51 AM »
So my attempt to sail foil was a complete disaster. sailed out to the middle of the river, then couldn't get going again and washed up on the sandbar. The sail is too far back. The board wanted to sail in circles, which made it tough to get going but might be great for gybes. I'll have to add another mast track or just stop being such a pussy and get my ass out at the hatchery and start paying dues.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Guessing you're on a board, not a boat! I used to sail alot on an O'Day 19 in the back bay here but never anything like this. GL w/your foil/sail fail.

One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

Looks like a more civilized version of the Moth. I was trying to buy a Moth for a little while, got tangled up with a Russian builder who seemed as reliable as a rabbit's romance. Came to nothing--I never actually sent him any money despite his frequent requests that were absent of any substantive promise to deliver.

Moth was the first boat I learned to sail on when I was 10 yrs old!  Good thing you didn't send payment!

I will, I just need to get a new mast track from Chinook and stick it in. This is on my Kalama board so I hate to add another track, but I'll think it through. Might buy or build a sail-specific foilboard.

Cook--are you talking about this kind of Moth?

The Moth I sailed was in the early 70s. old school. All wood. The second picture w/the green hull has a Sunfish rig. We also had a coupla Sunfish, then a Phantom which was bigger, faster, and more stable than the sunnies. Sailing was a big part of our lives here.
Funny we should touch on the subject of moth sailboats. Today is my dad's birthday. He woulda been 85. I still remember him taking me sailing at such an early age.

Saw this guy ripping it up on a hydrofoil a couple of weeks ago in some decent wind when I was up in the Southern Sierras windfoiling and windsurfing...
