Travis Grant technique video latest instalment
« on: May 24, 2018, 10:59:36 AM »
I have always found what Travis had to say interesting, and this one is no different:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bM4oxNv3iyI

A few tips contained:
* Paddle the narrower board that make you comfortable and able to deliver power with a stable stance not the narrower board
* do not overreach
* Upper hand weight DOWN on the paddle and not forward
* Do crunches :-)

That was a excellent paddling tutorial. Some of the things he mentioned in the video, I already do. I think my long arms just naturally progress to not  reach so far forward in relation to my height where my paddle blade entes the water.

BTW, there was a sweet Boston Whaler center console boat in the background when he was speaking and looking at the camera. That boat caught my eye.

Thanks for sharing the video.

I love watching videos about various paddling techniques.......but it still comes down to "what works best for you". I believe that even those that have made a study of paddling technique to try and fine tune it.....even they conclude that there "is no perfect technique" that works for everyone. It's a very personal challenge to find what is most efficient and comfortable. It's part of the beauty of this sport.

Thanks Luc,

I enjoyed that. Funny, the lower hand placed at shoulder width has always felt too low for me. Travis' explanation makes perfect sense. Start out that way for power, but then bring it up for speed.

Some good stuff for such a short video.

Also have to agree with Connector 14. Paddle stroke is a very personal thing. There are certain guidelines that make sense, but ultimately we all have to do what works for us. I think part of discovering what works best for each of us though, is listening to people like Travis so we have different things to try.

You can watch many of these and then pickup what works for you, the two are not mutually exclusive.

Most adults have a very hard time changing their stroke. It's a lot easier to teach a clean stroke to an absolute beginner.

Human beings are creatures of habit.
