I paddle a couple miles to surf a reef (past the point seen in photo) on my 12'6" Ron House Coastal Cruiser with Allison custom fin/box set up. My favorite outing.  Get some solitude paddling, get some surfing.........burrito, nap, done:)

“10-6, 11ft, that’s like a popular size...” We need to listen to the man :)

Ok, so we’ve all seen this a gazillion times, and in some ways it’s almost at the point of being self-parody. But, really, even after all these viewings I still see something new and gobsmacking when I watch it. Are there even names for some of these moves?

The original, and STILL the best.

@ Area 10

That was an excellent video. I had never seen this video of Laird before. I loved all the slow motion action in it. I also enjoyed watching his footwork combined with the his paddlwork. Makes me glad I chose for my second board, a nice 11' length. Now, if I could just sup surf like Laird.  ;)

Thanks for finding and sharing this video.

I love my 12'1x27" carbon sup for all kinds of things, from cruising, to milking summer waves to catching big outside rollers and riding them all the way to the beach.  This is my most versatile board.

Sub, I have the 9'6" x 28" BB and it really feels/rides like a classic nose-rider.

Hey Bean!  How does the 9'6" B&B compare to the 10' Fanatic Stylemaster?
Jimmy Lewis Black & Blue Noserider 10'1"x31"x4.25," 164 liters, 24 lbs, 1 box
Pearson Laird Surftech Longboard 10'6"x23"x29.75"x18"x4.375," 154 liters, 24 lbs, 3 boxes
Takayama Ali'i II Surftech 11'x21.375”x28.5”x17.25”x 4.25,” 162 liters, 26 lbs, 3 boxes

Hey Sub, the Stylemaster is a performance long board with a little more rocker, harder rails and planes and turns really well.  As you know, the BB is a traditional nose rider and demands to be ridden accordingly.  It will turn off the tail, but you can't waste any time getting back up to the trim spot.

My go to for over a year now is my 10'1" x 28.75 Pearson Arrow Laird Hybrid. Only 133L and so much fun. I have owned and sold 3 boards under 9' that were all fantastic shapes but i always just end up wishing i had the Laird so i sold the others and kept the Laird. It's amazing how you can manhandle a big board with a paddle in your hand. Plus i can cruise up the beach a mile or so and surf alone. Went prone surfing a few weeks ago on a 7' Ricky Carroll and while it was a blast, i ended paddling against the current most of the time and once again kept saying, Wish i had brought the laird. Next board is going to be a 10' x 27" longboard.

Longboards have always maintained a prominent place in all my quivers for the past 54 years.
Why wouldn't you ride one?

STC, and Clinto, have you run accross the Sunova Slong (half SUP, half longboard)  10' x25.5"! I want one!

Picked up an ancient 10 X 28.5 Laird Pearson Arrow (thinned out, pintail, wide nose) and have never had so much fun. Nose rides, goes fast, cuts back on a dime. When/if it ever goes, I'm getting another one made just like it. Just say 'no' to bulky rails!

My go-to boards are

Starboard Avanti Teaching or less than perfect (even big) conditions
Fanatic AllWave either 9'8 or the older 9'10 "There really is some performance in this size of boards"

Its all about the fun ... You are not better because you ride a shorter board ... You are the best when you are having the most FUN!

How much do you weigh, JimK? (If you don’t mind me asking.)

I ride my 10' Mahalo Shaka "quiver killer" quad + StubNub on bigger swell days with lots of water moving where I need a bit more paddle power and want to glide in earlier...it's slightly scaled down from my popular 10'3" x 31" and 10'3" x 33" Mahalo designs which are ridden quite often in head high or less surf...and, great flat water paddlers...
