Still on my 8 year old Laird Pearson 10 6. Still the most fun board I've ever surfed.
Bunch of old shit

I think its awesome that 3 of us including myself like an 8-10 year old Laird Pearson the best for larger SUS boards. It really is an amazing shape. What fin setups are you guys running? I have tried a 2+1 with smaller sides fins and a 7" dolphin fin that is smooth and loose. i tried a 10" Bonga perkins single fin last weekend and it was nice for noseriding and bottom turns but didn't cut back as well. Needed to be further back on the tail to get it around with the single fin for sure. I have never tried quad but feel like that is blaspheme on a longboard IMO.

Clinto,

My Laird is the 10'6" Surftech with three boxes.
I've got a boat load of fins that I switch around every few sessions.
The board seems to work well with most of them.
When I put in a new fin or setup it feels like a different board!
...for at least a few waves - I guess that's why I have so many.
Some setups are better for doing certain things than others.

Like you, I also often use 3.5" GL sidebites and a 7.5" dolphin shaped center fin.
That particular center (O'fish) has a thin, flat foil.  This setup is low drag - good for paddling fast
and easier takeoffs - important in my usually very crowded surf spot.  Also, the board
is very fast with this setup.

For trying to get toes over, I like D-fins.  I was very surprised at how well the D-fin turns
the board and lets you go top to bottom.  The Rainbow 8.5" D-fin works well and has a swept
front that makes it better for the usually thick kelp which we have.  I have quite
a few different D-fins.  My favorite is a Revers D-Fin, but it is a kelp catcher.  I recently got
a D-fin by Dorsal that works about as well as the rest, maybe a little slower which is ok if it
isn't crowded.  It is made of Lexan plastic - it arrived with sharp edges that I filed down.
It was too crowded to try for toe's over - I need to try that one again.

Clinto, I'm using 3.5 inch sidebites and the stock 6.5 Laird fin on my 10-0. Very loose and fast, but I usually  slide out when way up on the nose , sending me into inadvertent helicopters (never quite made it all the way around!). Keep meaning to throw a bigger center fin on but having too much fun. And I'm going to try a big single fin as you did, see what happens.

Does my 9'11" Ripper count?
I guess it doesn't! Never owned a longboard sup BUT, I did pretty much learn sup on a 10'6" PSH All Arounder that a friend was letting me use out of his garage. That was fall and winter of 2011-12 and this is the first picture of me on it from back then. I remember how hard it was my first few goes to turn that board to even catch the wave. I'm missing a lngbrd sup in my quiv for sure. The other shot was from when I submitted to the PSH website in summer 2012. They also used my Ripper contribution. I would love to own an 8'6" Ripper. Great shrtbrd outline on it.

One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

As a prone surfer I always kept a longboard in the mix. Even when my shortboard was a 5-10 twin fin.

With prone boards the “long” feeling starts at 9’. With our boards I get that at 10+.

@ surfinJ

You have some wonderful waves to sup surf on. Wish I had waves like that on the upper Texas coast, but that is not the case.

Thanks for posting your two videos.

Anybody surfing a 10 foot or longer stand up board out there?

Picked up this 12'0" Starby Carbon BIG Easy earlier this year in a straight up swap for a 14' Naish Glide GX which was collecting too much dust in my garage. Now it's my go to board for those 1'-2' days which are fairly frequent here in San Diego. Good choice for us XXL BIG Guys

That was a very good find and a real nice straight up trade you made. Congrats.

Hey linter!

You were a big motivation for me to stick with my B&B...I'm still a beginning beginner.
