Such a great idea, if not a little risky.  Looks like fun!

Last fall behind my buddy's 34' fishing boat...at a slightly slower pace.  It is fun, but not as much as surfing a natural wave.

That looks awesome. I've seen those white water kayaks in the standing wave near my house performing very similar to this wake surfer, well it's actually about 50 miles away on the Delaware River. I was so obsessed w/surfing that wave that I finally went and did it. Well w/limited success on my longboard. Need to revisit that place.  8)

One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

Cookie!!!!!! You get an A+ for effort with the wrong board. You need a shorter board with more nose rocker. Your long board just wanted to pearl the whole time. You managed to get back far enough to barely keep the nose up, but so far back that you were in the stall position. Great effort..........
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

That's what I was thinking.    And, maybe some extra volume.
Looks like you might have a SUP that would work better:

I used to live about a half mile from Scudder Falls when I worked in Princeton, have run through there many times on a canoe.  If the water is really high you might try SUPing Tohikon Creek, I've hear they have changed the flow channel there from when we did it 25 years ago in kayaks.  Agree with comments on trying with shorter board with more rocker.  Tyler Lausten is shaping boards for river surfing if you want something custom.

I took river board surfing lessons in Montreal on the St. Lawerence, with a fun board shape and  much bigger flow.  It was like getting flushed down a 1/4 mile toilet every time I fell off,  gave me much respect for Corran Addison who makes every thing with a paddle look easy.

We ride behind the sternwheeler on the Columbia--goes pretty fast, makes five rideable big-ass waves behind it. You can go for miles.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

I can get a ride behind the whale watch boats and/or ferry on the way out of Plymouth harbor. Can't do much on the wave but it's a mile ride from the turn to the point. Fun at 1st but gets kind of boring after you've done it a few times.
