GoPro Quik help
« on: April 05, 2018, 09:43:21 AM »
I just bought a Hero (2018) and its a pretty cool entry level camera. Now I need some help on video creating and editing. Is Quik the best way to start or is there an easier software to use? Are the any good tutorials that you'd recommend?

I'm hoping to be somewhat up to speed by before my May Maldives trip.

Quik is probably the easiest way to edit your GoPro footage. Another simple alternative is iMovie if you are on Apple. Tutorials are available on GoPro site as well as youtube I am sure.

Hi Tom
Like gza said, Imovie if on Mac.
I never read anything... just started making movies.
Pretty intuitive, just do what you think you should ... and it usually works 😃

I don't know if GoPro's software has updated, but this how I do it.

You'd be surprised what a few quick looks at tutorials will unlock. Curve just got smaller. GL in the Maldives.

I just checked out the Quik editing software. It looks very easy to make a quick simple video by just letting GoPro automate the scenes, transitions with a list of ready-made styles and music. To do your own custom thing on Quik does not look easy, if even possible? I'm going to get a new GoPro Hero5 Sessions and make a 'supthecreek' hat mount. I'll try Quik with that.

I think I can get by with Quik, but you can only use their shitty music. I'm looking for something simple but more versatile. Studio will not be supported, so probably not worth it for me to use.

You can still use Studio and Quik as separate applications. https://gopro.com/help/articles/Question_Answer/GoPro-Studio-End-of-Life-FAQ

GoPro has just stopped distributing and supporting it. My Studio still works fine, and I just loaded it on to my new computer. I'd say give it a shot. It's a free option.

Here is the link another free Windows video editor that GoPro recommends.  http://www.videosoftdev.com/free-video-editor/download

The best way to edit GoPro videos is to get a Trace and let it do it. Cuts out all the nonsense in between. I've heard though that the integration between GoPro and Trace is no more, so that door might be closed.

Try to DL Studio and WMM.  Even tho not supported on Windows can still work if luck is on your side.  We use Apple and still use an old unsupported iMovie version to handle stabilized graded 60p and 4K.  Tested WMM about 10 years ago to compare vs Vegas for AVCHD 60i on a Windows laptop.  Was tons better than iMovie for that Sony/Pan codec way back then.  But since found work-arounds to make 60i into 60p using PR on Apple.

Current native 60p and 4K render very nice using an old unsupported iMovie app -> so maybe old unsupported Windows apps might as TD notes.  On Apple have many unsupported apps that still work perfectly fine.  But certain OSX upgrades will lock out old apps.  So very important to do your homework to know what will work and what will get crippled.  ;)

If you can part w/seventy bucks PowerDirector is a really good editor. I have PD13 from a few yrs ago and had to reload it when my laptop decided to crash. Luckily the support from Cyberlink is strong and they sent me the program again for download. Also there's a sharing website hosted by em called Director Zone w/all kinds of free extras submitted by users. Very easy to find nice add-ons.

Shortened the url for ya.
