Looking for foiling beta in Maui this week
« on: March 27, 2018, 10:44:03 AM »
Aloha Maui foil jonesers!
I’m in Honokowai for 10 days and looking for some beta on a decent foil surf break. I am near S turns and will probably try that but am looking for something a bit less gong showy.  I am aware that the surf is pretty flat here until the weekend. Seems like i may need to go to Kanaha or something around there. Whats the good tide for 1000 peaks or olowalu? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I will hopefully get a lightwind kitefoil session on this kona wind today from the condo(Hale Kai by bad ass coffee).
Mahalo

Let me know if you find something. It's flat as a millpond this morning. I'm going to try some of the outer reef breaks, but I suspect they will be no go. Maybe outer Tavares, but it's a long paddle for nothing. If you're going to try 1000 peaks then go at high tide--otherwise your wing will look like mine.

You might want to stay away from Olowalu, very shallow and mainly a prone surf break.

Wickedly shallow. We finished a Canoe Club race there when they still allowed SUPs and I had to come in through a little channel with reef on both sides. The guy in front of me got sideways, I had to turn off to avoid him and wound up laying in six inches of water on coral, rocks, and Wana, wallowing in waves and pushing my board back to the channel. No fun for me, hilarious for everyone else.

S turns was foilable but i only have my small prone board and was not able to get it up. I haven’t proned much in years and this little 5’6” tater chip is making me feel like a complete beginner.  It’s actually a Slingshot Simulator kiteboard but works as a crossover prone foilboard. If i had my sup foilboard i could have had a good session. Opted not to fly it over from mainland.  Looks like light wind kite foil session might happen soon. I only need 8 mph and my H2 wing flys. Send it!!!!

I've got an 8'6" L41 you're welcome to borrow. For that matter talk to 808 surf in Napili. I think they rent a couple of foil SUP boards.

I talked to 808. Guy was super helpful but they don’t rent foilboards. He said sturns or guardrails are the westside gotos. I am going to dawn patrol sturns tomorrow.  I would be psyched to borrow your L41 if its not too much trouble. Is it set up with tracks or tuttle? I have foils with track mount. You headed this way anytime? Otherwise, i could come to north shore maybe tomorrow.
Thanks Pono
