One of the guys that rides in one of my wife's riding group missed a narrow plank bridge at the bottom of a canyon. He had speed on the steep drop and once his front tire drop out the edge of the plank he endo'd head first into the up slope on the other side. The first thing they did was call my wife because she's the nurse in the group. They said he's alert and talking, but is feeling tingling in his arms. Should he try to just walk out?  She said call 911 and don't move him. They helivac'd him out. Broken neck. He's fine now, but doesn't ride anymore. He'd only been mountain biking for a few years and was low on dirt riding skills, but it could happen to anyone.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

I have a couple of good friends that are ER doctors.  They both say that mountain bike accidents pay their bills.

Statistically you will find that sidewalks and commuting are far more dangerous.

Keep fit and mobile is the best strategy.

Ride a lot well within your comfort zone. With time on bike you’ll find that comfort zone expanding.

You know, kind of like paddling.

or the person who jumped off their board in shallow water 500x later (sorry, can't remember who) and twisted themselves up.

LOL; that was me!  Tore a calf muscle and was out of the water for 6 weeks.

I'm probably going to kaack sometime in the next 1000 weeks. I'd rather check out having fun than in a hospital with tubes down my throat.

LOL, great attitude!  My sentiments exactly.  I've often joked that I want my last words to be "Oh no!  Look out!"

And me, back in August, high ankle sprain and hair-line fracture...now back to running (jogging).

Modified mine to Geezer mode last year; ATV tires, uprite bars, big ass peddles and last but not least a George Brett special seat cushion!
