That was fun. Good mix.

It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Nice video.  It did make me wonder.  If you have as much talent as those guys riding the “High Performance” SUP’s, why not prone surf.  It’s obvious those boards are still way to floaty. Way more fun on a surfboard.  The long boarding was awesome though.  Just my two cents. YMMV !

That was awesome, great surfing, funny interludes and good music mix. Just what I needed on this cold icy day.

Thanks all.  I really liked the surfing in those clips.

Rider mentioned above that if guys can rip on a performance SUP, why not just shortboard.  I saw something different in these clips.  There's something about the way they are riding here that doesn't just look like shortboarding on over-volumed boards. Something about the lines and use of the volume, paddle and rail lines. Mo was the first guy that I really noticed looking like he was really differentiating.  Personally, I can't rip on a shortboard at all, but like surfing on smaller SUPs.  I like the leverage (and to be honest, the crutch) I get with the paddle and like being able to glide through sections that I wouldn't be able to on a shortboard (my waves aren't very critical).  But that's here nor there since I'm a terrible shortboarder.  Maybe surfing on shorter SUPs is just the only way I can get close to a feeling of shortboarding (which kind of backs up Rider's point).  Though one of the guys in the vid once said "it’s just more fun on more days".

I think we all just do what we enjoy.  If you enjoy SUP surfing more than traditional surfing, why not do it?

I'll answer it as a guy who prince surfs more than I SUP right now.

You get more waves and can surf longer on a SUP. That's it. Longer sessions, more waves.

I'm focused on learning to prone better right now as an experiment but I'll come back to mostly SUP eventually as you can have a lot more fun. If you like surfing, why not do the thing that lets you surf more? I sit a LOT when on a prone board.

I think there's a tendency for some to see SUP as something you do if you can't really surf. Those guys disprove that as they can all do either at a very high level.

Agree.  I would add that many of us enjoy the challenge of pulling off moves on boards that are admittedly harder to shred on.  SUP surfing is a new discipline with new paradigms, and you can't judge it by traditional surfing standards.
