Snow Pack Slush Session
« on: January 10, 2018, 08:39:30 PM »
Definitely one of the most unique experiences I've ever had surfing my local. Kinda the opposite of when I wrecked three weeks earlier!  8)
I only caught one "Slushy" but it was enough to feel how it slows the wave down big time.

One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

What a great and strange session. A mix of surf and what it feels like tree skiing when you have to hoof it out.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

cookie---nice vid---nice to see the ss3 is dialed in--nicest to see that you are back and healthy

got my new ss3 yesterday--hoping to try out in the swell this wknd--hoping this chest cold that hit last night passes quickly--or ill miss the first decent swell in a month--prolly not a good idea to paddle out in overhead shorebreak in 30 degree weather with a shitty colld---grrr

Nice day there cookieman!
Musta got hot, cuz you pulled your hood down  :)

Those days are fun, but honestly, I am glad I headed south. Wetsuits seem to get thicker with years.
65 in Myrtle today, trunked it 2 days ago, water was cold but air was warm..... my feet were numb and lifeless when I got out  ;D ;D

Thanx all for scoping my stoke. It was such a unique day at the beach. A friend happened to come by as I was exiting and got a great shot.

A mix of surf and what it feels like tree skiing when you have to hoof it out.
It was def ALOTTA work trudging that soft pack!

nicest to see that you are back and healthy
Right on! I'm def considering myself extra lucky. Juudging from the extreme pain I seriously was estimating 4-6 wks recovery from that kidney hit.

Musta got hot, cuz you pulled your hood down. My feet were numb and lifeless when I got out
Losing any rubber is always a plus. The sun reflecting off the water was def heating things up out there on the "Bluebird" day. lol...lifeless and numb!!

that must've felt good.Really enjoyed that!
Thanx, WS. It really did feel good!

And I'm going to guess you were on your 9'11" PSH Wide Ripper.
Exactly. I really like that board but it's just so heavy now after being repaired numerous times.

Was that music the latest release from Cook Music?
First jam is a Sade instrumental. Second jam is a guitar player I knew who was talented beyond belief. Unfortunately he passed away at the early age of 55 or so.

watching that makes me wanna have a slushie
lmao!

Surfer cook

Great session. Very surreal with the snow and ice. Could you tell me what settings you have your soloshot 3 on and are you using the optics 65 camera. You seem to have it working well.

Thanx for scoping my vid, FRP. I checked ur profile and see you're in Tofino. I always think of Tofino as the west coast equivalent to Lawrencetown Point, Nova Scotia. Maybe one day I'll visit. I almost always go w/the Opti65 at default settings to start, then tweek it after a while mid sesh.
Opti65-1080/60
Med FOV to start then switch to Tight
Bottom Center Framing
Water Mode

Check out this B movie I stumbled on. It's shot in Tofino! A bit sophomoric and juvenile but good fun.

Thanks Cook

Will try those settings. First time to try the camera it was tracking? but I was just out of or occasionally just in the picture. It was quite windy and the video quality was poor. It is either raining or windy in Tofino. There is one beach that I could possiblyvshoot from the car. Not sure if that would work. Any suggestions out there for improving camera stability in wind? Definitely look me up if you make the trip.

Thanks for the video link. Will be fun to see some of the local spots. If my wife finds me watching it there will be some “splanin” to do.

Cheers

I don't think the SS will track from inside a vehicle. As far as shooting in windy conditions be very careful. I've had my SOLOSHOTs go down w/cam mounted and it's not fun. I usually do a tripod high wind config by opening the legs super wide, but that lowers the pov. The SS tripod has these tabs to open the legs wider.

That's a really nice video and pretty hardcore in those conditions, don't how you do it , even the seagulls wear wetsuits when its cold where I come from. If I could offer some video advice , lay off the tricky transitions it takes away from the dreamy footage , just let the vision tell the story. Thanks for the share really enjoyed it.
