5’10” Tomo Evo Foil Surfboard
« on: December 09, 2017, 10:21:33 PM »
Took delivery a few weeks ago on this 5’10” 43 liter tomo evo. Javier at XTR in Oceanside scaled up the thickness, dropped the channels, and built it with a Tuttle box for my Kai foil.

After a few months paddling a much lower volume board, I wanted something with as much paddle power as could be jammed into a short package. The evo seemed like the appropriate shape to start with.

I have about a dozen days on it so far and it’s great. I can paddle into almost anything with it, but it’s so light and stubby that I can’t imagine I would gain too much by going smaller.

The other benefit of this shape is that I can always pull the foil and have a groveler to surf.

Next up is adding a Tuttle box to my 8’2” L41...

Nice rig!

How do you like the placement of the deckpad for your back foot?  I initially thought mine was too far back on my 7'6 but as it turns out it's just right.  I tend to stand just on or just forward of mast when cruising, but when I wanna carve my foot goes just past mast.

I hacked a few pad pieces together for that setup. I set the main pad at a normal shortboard placement so it works when I surf the board without the foil. The rear pad is octopus corduroy and I put some extra da Kine diamond pattern pad in front. If it’s small I like to be right on the front bolt, and if it’s bigger I like being fully in front of the mast. With the different pad textures I can tell where my foot placement is without looking down.

One other thing about that board is the tail was a little too thin to have the full Tuttle box. Javier made a little dome for the box about 1/4” high. The benefit is that it acts like an arch pad so I know if my rear foot is centered over the mast.

Here’s a shot from above.
