How do I make socket to fit wing onto fuse?
« on: December 01, 2017, 08:25:48 AM »
Inspired by Supuk I am trying to make a wing for my Takuma.  I have no 3d printer so I tried  wrapping a test object with fiberglass.  It came out kind of loose.  Maybe if I had a vacuum system it would have been better.
I am also considering trying putty.  Any ideas?
I am a complete noob and have spent some time trying to think this through but decided it might be easier to just learn by doing.
Thanks

Machine it or print it. Vacuum bagging would help but it will be difficult to make it work unless you have the ability to make a small fitted bag. UK's offer is probably the easiest, but you can also do precise measurements, design your part in cad, and have it printed by a service if you don't have a printer. Or get a printer. I'm in Maui now without access to my printers and machine tools and I'm having withdrawal symptoms.

If you Google 3d printer services you'll find a zillion. I used Shapeways a long time ago to do a printed part in metal (float bowl lid for an unobtanium weber carb). A bit expensive, but it was nice work.

I might as well get a printer.  I've got some research to do.
Once I get settled I'll drop you a message and maybe you can just send me the file.  If it works that way.
Thanks!

I tried moulding directly off the fuz using some thin plastic as a release film however even that gave to too much play when it was removed.

i don't think I could live with out my printer now its fantastic, I would defiantly recommend the genuine prusa great quality and reliable prints and the mk2s is discounted at the moment. let me know ether way I'm happy to provide you with the stl for the tube.

You can use mold release and filler on your loose fitting sleeve to get a nice, tight fit, Alex Aguera shows how in this video:

you can but I would recommend it on a straight fuz like the takuma, the reason it works on the go foil is the taper helps it release.

I'm glad you pointed that out before I gave it a shot.

Anyway, it looks like I am going to be busy for a while learning 3d software, and trying to figure out if there is a free program that is good enough.

Opie, Fusion360 is free for non commercial use and will blow your mind. Also, super easy to learn. We have a thread on it here.
