WTF happened to the swell???

Strangest surf conditions I've seen. This morning I woke up to big, clean, steep-faced swells in the bay beneath ponohouse. Pretty long period, smashing over the rocky island at the tip of the bay, at least ten foot. While I watched, the swells disappeared and went flat. Now there's a minor swell with disorganized crap around it. Surfline calls for the swell to drop a little tomorrow then grow to 15-20 feet on Thursday. But what the hell happened this morning? I've never seen clean, big swell that stretched to the horizon turn off like someone flicked a switch.

Selfishly, it doesn't matter too much with my fucked knee. Baby waves at Puamana are about all I can manage, and even then I look like a dancing bear, staggering around on my board.
