Vancouver paddling.
« on: October 29, 2017, 12:03:34 AM »
I went to Vancouver for some work training and hooked up with fellow zoner Luc B for a couple of outings. Luc was my tour guide for Howe Sound in Squamish and Indian Arm out of Deep Cove-Vancouver. I have always wanted to go paddling in Vancouver and area and it was cool to meet a fellow zoner and get out there, so thanks Luc. Beautiful area with many paddling options.

Hey Mel,
Anytime. It was great paddling with you and we were so lucky with the weather.
There are a few more spots that you will enjoy around here.
See you soon for more paddling and we will come and see you one of these days in the Kootenays.

Sounds good Luc and I hope you got/are getting some good weather for the Tofino trip. Yes, the weather was very cooperative for the most part and even sunny at times.  I really wanted to hit up Jericho, but needed to get back on Friday. Next time.

I'm kicking myself for not bringing my inflatable when I was down there in September for work. Beautiful.

There are some rental options if you ever go to Vancouver for work again. Deep Cove has a outfit right on the water where Luc I went paddling on the Indian Arm/Deep Cove.

You just need to check the dates, as they close during the winter. We did downwind Howe Sound the last three days and it was looking very different than when Mel was there :-)

Any chance for a video and pictures of the run (and route map as well)?
Would very interesting to see you guys in  action against this backdrop.
in progress...

Howe Sound:
The most common DW routes are:
Porteau Cove>Britannia
Britannia>Squamish
Or Porteau>Squamish

Pictures in descending order Squamish then Britannia then Porteau just to give you an idea of the surroundings.

During the summer late morning/early afternoon inflow.
During the winter outflows based on weather conditions i.e. storms :-) or just nice relaxing downbreezers

There are also DW to be done in the South part i.e. Horseshoe Bay and Lyons's Bay but the conditions can be tricky. Either full storm or changing winds. Not as easy to launch and shuttle.

Not sure how to put a video on the forum but outside of a Relive 3D model, I do not have a video during the runs. None of us is really into GoPro or such.
