Red Bull Heavy Water 2017 will be BOOMING!
« on: October 17, 2017, 02:07:04 PM »
Scheduled for this Friday 10/20.   HUGE!

I am not sure how they are going to pull this off.  It will be the first legit Mavericks session of the year.

Massive!

I would rather paddle out at Mavericks, at least Mavericks will have a channel, than into this size at Ocean Beach.

There is no way anyone is escaping with dry hair.

Not sure it's even possible to get a raceboard out at Ocean Beach in that size swell.  And then to have to do a couple in and outs...gonna be brutal!

Beasho - any idea what size they were calling it last year?  A lot of guys got their asses handed to them (can't blame them - that's some heavy beach break) and don't think it was anywhere near the size they are predicting

Last year was mice nuts compared to this forecast.  Just 6 to 8 ft.  NOT Hawaiian.

I heard they didn’t get approved for beach permits and will be starting behind the break this year.

Oddly? In what way? It's a one off event that isn't part of any world tour or in support of a local scene. Its basically a promotional event from what I can tell.

Well, it hardly shows parity in the sport. I guess the question is, if its a promotional event and not part of any world tour and is in support of a local scene, why not ?

Perhaps they were ask just none of them were keen? It wouldn't surprise me, how many female racers/surfers are there that could handle it? Enough to make a race?

In a realz rescue, in any condition I would take Andrea Moller for my rescue rather then Kai lenny. Also wondering if Anthony Vela suggests to Candice to stay on the beach because he is wondering if she can handle it. What has not happened in world:

Julie Foudy(Gold medalist, World Cup Soccer winner) "hey Shay you should sit on the beach only boys candle handle these big conditions".

Don't come back with hurt feelings Supuk, "that is not what I said, I am just saying that based on the numbers blah, blah blah, blah"

Advocate for inclusion, don't make stooopid excuses for patriarchy.

It's invite only and no women were invited. Annabel posted about this the other day. There's quite a few women that would compete if they were allowed to. Apparently it's not Red Bull keeping it a male-only event. This event is part of the APP world tour. From a lot of the comments on Annabel's post, it appears that the APP is the reason women are not part of this event. Giorgio Gomez isn't competing because of this. Izzi is definitely someone that would be out there, especially considering she's a Red Bull athlete. I'll still watch but I don't agree with this being a male-only event at all.

I also saw Annabel’s post. And I agree with you Kayadogg. There is no reason women should not be competing.
