Basically, the fires started Sunday PM and by Monday PM, whole neighborhoods had burned down.  We came from Pleasanton yesterday, and the smoke in the air was incredible there through San Jose, yuk.  Santa Cruz is better, less smokey, but you can still see it and it filters out some of the sun light

There was a similar story about the Oakland hills fire of 1991 where someone survived by jumping in a swimming pool.  When I went up after the Oakland fire to look, it looks like the whole area had been bombed, and I saw the pool the person survived in.

I feel fortunate to only be affected by the smoke issues of these fires. So much grass to burn due to the huge amount of rain.

I skated a fantastic pool in the Oakland Hills a couple of years after the fire. They had not re-built yet.
