I think the sweet spot is where we are zeroing in on--something more challenging than the 9'6 x 32, 165 L Stoke, but a more forgiving than the 8'6 x 31, 140 L version.

It definitely sounds like 9' x 32" x 150L would be a good way to go.

This is going to be a one board quiver ...

One board quiver?   How about a Quiver Killer?   This is a blown up version of Mayhem's Quiver Killer (basically the same outline as a Nano but with a round tail):   9' x 32" x 4.64" x 150L ...
Home Break: Doheny
Tic Tac v3 (Hoglet): 6' 6" x 23" x 3.6" x 67L
Omni: 6' 9" x 23" x 3.75" x 68L
Tic Tac (OG): 7' 0" x 22.75" x 3.5" x 70L
In The Pink (Incoming): 8' 0" x 22.9" x 3.25" x 70L

Clean & classic round pins are very hard to improve upon in decent surf...my experimentation always keeps leading me back to them...very proven and predictable...work in a very wide range of conditions...etc...

Interesting...that plan form template is not too dissimilar from my WD Stoke...Mayhem is a bit fuller in the tail 24" up...
I net 149.6 (~ 150) liters at 4.55" thickness...obviously, similarities start to stretch apart in 3D...deck and bottom rocker...bottom contours...volume distribution...rail configs...fin placement...etc...

Quiver killer? hmmmmm...I personally love quivers and always try not to harm them...;-)

For reference, at 255-260# (depending on the phase of the moon) I can still get up and surf my wife's 9-2 x 32 stoke.  It surfs like a dream, but the time between waves is a bit more difficult, and I've given up long ago on trying to keep up with the smaller board trend.  For my 6-3, 200# son, it's magic (and he wants it when momma goes custom again).

Momma and I regret not shipping our boards with us to Maui.  Sure you can try new stuff that way but all that effort to narrow down what you like and why gets kind of wasted.  Travel board restrictions are an interesting variable in finding the magic ride.

Thanks Slatch.  ...some good perspective in there.

Ya, we're big believers in travelling with our boards for the exact reasons you mentioned.  If possible, I like to bring two! ...you never know what the conditions are going to be like.

So far, he's had luck travelling with his 9'6 on Westjet and Alaska, but it's close to the limit and he gets a bit stressed every time he heads for the counter.  With a 9'0, there'd be no worries on those two airlines (which are the ones we most often use).

Kronos put together a first round design.  Based off of the Nano concept, he blew it up and made some adjustments to take the bigger size into account, including going with a rounded pin tail like he uses on his performance longboards. There is still some fine-tuning to go, but the basic outline is starting to come into focus (a pretty classic outline like the WD Stoke and Mayhem above).

The rocker looks very nice.   I think a rounded tail is a necessity on larger boards.  How are the bottom contours?  Do you have a plan view showing vee?

"9'2 x 32, 150-155 L" looks pretty identical to Wardog's 9-2 x 32" stoke at 155L.  That's about the shortest sup I've felt even remotely comfortable on and for someone my size, it surfed with so much performance, it was a rush!

I was curious on what type of bag you guys use for travel?  I have a SUP Sports bag that came with my purchase of my 9-6 stoke that seems pretty solid.  Do you put in extra padding?  Just one board per bag?  If you have a picture of boards fitting into the travel bag, that would help my visualization a bunch.

Ya, with that classic shape, the outline looks very similar.  It'll have a different rocker, rails, foam distribution, bottom contour, construction, etc. to give it its own personality.  The ultra-light weight construction will give it a bit of added float and I think Kronos will make a few tweaks to add a bit of surface area to maximize stability for the size (knowing he's coming down from a board 4" longer and 10-15 L more in volume).

We've been using light weight travel bags (I use the Laird SUP bags like in the Amazon link below) but have come up with a great system for flights.  We buy a sheet of 8' x 4' hard foam house insulation from Home Depot and cut it in half--one for the top and one for the bottom (make sure to use packing tape on the edges to reduce mess).  We also wrap our rails with pipe insulation.  We've used this system on many flights and have never had any issues. We generally use bags 6" bigger than our boards (below is an 8'6 board in a 9'0 bag). We also wrap our paddles in pipe insulation and throw them in the bag too (I don't even take my paddle apart anymore).  This setup keeps the package nice and light (good for us and good to not piss off the baggage handlers).

For this new 9'2 build, we'll likely use a 9'6 bag (still under the limit for Alaska and Westjet).

Here's a pic of the setup:

My Nano is a single concave, but with this bigger/wider version, it's going to be a single to double to vee.

Aloha Jim,
I've made a number of trips successfully with my board bag designs...definitely robust enough...haven't had an issue yet...
A couple of pics of packing my 9'2" WD Stoke for my South Pacific trip last year...
I use foam padding on the rails at widest point...then, nose and tail foam padding...paddle is in it's own padded bag...typically, I'll pack it with extra stuff (towels...etc...) to within 1# of the weight range for the airline...

I have a friend who designs those annoying theft proof plastic packages, and it looks like you two could teach that course. :)

The board is in the shaping bay.  It'll be done this month, but we won't pick it up until late January.
