Split paddle
« on: October 06, 2017, 05:41:26 PM »
I recently saw split fins in a diving shop,
https://www.google.co.jp/search?q=split+fins&client=safari&hl=fr-jp&prmd=sivn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwijj8qkod3WAhUBGJQKHa2cCtMQ_AUICigC&biw=375&bih=559#imgrc=qqqnhoMwtIc7mM:

they're said to be good for long straight rides, so I wondered why I've never seen a SUP paddle with a split blade. I mean something like that :

Has anybody seen /tried it? I'm thinking of building one. Will it work?

I know Quatro has a "split paddle" but it's not a split blade

What are you trying to achieve with this?

Good question Burchas! It might have more stability and maybe feel smoother...

I've done something similar with one of my older Werner FB paddles. it was for training purposes in order to
reduce tension while practicing stroke technic trying to maximize paddle load. Not for everyday use though.

You'll achieve the same effect with a smaller area blade but with more efficiency.

Just before we started Ke Nalu a friend of mine told me about an idea he had for a slit in a paddle. I asked the same question. He said "to make it smoother". He thought there was no way to make a paddle business scale, and dropped the idea. I started looking at how paddles actually work and realized that smoothness is exactly the opposite of what we want for what we want a paddle to do, which is transfer as much energy to the board as possible, without wobbling or vibrating.

For the scale issue, I realized we needed a plan to take over the entire market. I was working on executing that when I decided it was too much like actual work. I'm a little sorry that I didn't persist because it would have been pretty easy at the time.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

I am too a little sorry you didn't  :( We might have seen a paddle targeting folks with Carpal Tunnel. Surly a hit.

You sold me. I'm still using my two from way back when you owned Ke Nalu. I've paddled nothing better.
Bunch of old shit
