Biscayne Bay downwinder from yesterday.
« on: October 04, 2017, 12:19:41 PM »
So this week in Florida is pretty good. We have quite a bit of wind. 5 of us ventured onto some dw paddling in Biscayne Bay. Good bumps all the way. Wind was around 25-30mph. Riding my allstar for this one with 9” fcs fat boy - quickly becoming my favorite dw combo.

Looked like fun.  How did you like the narrower cutting boof All Star ride vs the wider surf nosed Bullet in those conditions?

thanks laszlo, not too often - maybe a dozen times a year. Florida is finicky.

Thanks Eagle. I prefer Allstar for these conditions. Seems to be faster and doesn't bury nose too much. Bullet is a magic carpet ride though where as allstar is more  technical.

Perfect summary.  That is exactly how I would compare them as well.  For me the AS23 scoots along very quickly whereas the Bullet V2 is slower but silky smooth.  Always great to have that ride variety.  Mostly I have been riding the AS23 the past year and really like it for its efficient glide and low drag with waves.  Gets into bumps a lot sooner than the Bullet.  But then the Bullet is crazy stable.  So both are fantastic in their own ways.  ;)

Bullet is definitely fantastic board for certain conditions. In my case it is perfect for downwinders in the Atlantic in January when shit gets just too crazy. 😝 this is our take out point :) 9ft waves lol

Wow!  Looks very punishing.  We are lucky in that at both Britannia and Squamish we take out at calm protected boat ramps after our DW runs.  Makes it super easy even in high winds.  Must take some nerve in big breaking waves like that.

Nice run G!

After doing few Viento runs on the same All Star I can see why you like it for these
conditions.

Getting out through that surf with a 14 footer can't be all that fun? I guess I'll have to
see for my self next time I'm in your area which suppose to be around that time when
shit get crazy  :)
in progress...

@gzasinets

Looking at the photo with the 9' incoming waves, I wouldn't even had attempted to go through those waves either going out or coming in. Yikes!

Awesome conditions and great to see you are enjoying the All-Star. How long was the run? Can you post the Garmin route data?
